Any 09-10 TDI water pump leaks out there?

Or something coolant related. Wife was leaving for work this morning when the low coolant light came on. I went out and put some more g12 in and she was on her way. As soon as she left, I saw a big puddle of coolant in the driveway. She got about 20 minutes down the road and called to say the low coolant light was on again. I go to meet her and bring some more water and the stuff is everywhere from being slung off the belts. Fill it back up with water (about 3 quarts), trade vehicles, and I drove it to the dealer about 40 minutes away. The light never came on and temp never went over 210 the whole trip down, and when I parked the car at the dealer, after 10 minutes there was no coolant puddle under it. Friggin strange. Car did not leak anything overnight, but after starting this morning, it started to leak. Got to dealer, appears to be stopped. I'll post up after the service manager calls back. Now rolling in a dealer-provided Chevy HHR. Woo-hoo!!!! Hold it to the floor and feel the burn!

Service manager just called, the water pump is leaking. They probably won't have it in until tuesday or wednesday. We'll wait and see. Hope this isn't a sign of things to come...

You are not alone in that mine has developed a leak also, but it is very slow. I am trying to track it down myself so there is no wasted time at the dealer with them trying to locate it. Once I find it I will make an appointment to get it fixed. I believe mine is a high pressure load type leak because nothing drips while it is sitting there running.

My water pump is done as well! My car is less than a year old. Started with the light signal, went to the dealer, they filled 2 liters of fluid, the next morning I had a puddle in my garage. Back at the dealer- they say it's the water pump that needs to be replaced...Still on warranty at least.

Must be a thing. How many miles did you have when it went, SOPH68? Ours didn't even hit 20k miles. When I pick it up, I'm going to get the old and new part numbers (if any) to see if the new pump has an updated P/N. This shouldn't be happening. Water pump engineering isn't that difficult, is it? I'd like to know whether the seal went or the bearings.

We should be getting ours back tomorrow. Service manager called today to say they couldn't replicate the rear hatch glitch or the hatch glass glitch. Sometimes the power lift doesn't function and the hatch glass sometimes doesn't latch when you close it, requiring 2 or 3 slams before it locks. Think I'm gonna stock up on G12 antifreeze too.

Insist on new belts, my service manager said they would put new ones on even before I mentioned it.

Second one today

My wife phoned on her way home from work, no heat in the vehicle and it had been whining earlier and now she could smell antifreeze. When she pulled into the driveway, it was running out so I took it immediately to the dealer. They hadn't looked at it yet by supper but I doubt it's a hose on a new vehicle (2009 TDI). The first pump went at the first oil change. Is this motor the same block as the 3.0 litre Audi gas engine? There have been endless posts on the Audi boards concerning water pumps on S4's. My Touareg has been a whole lot of trouble, a giant POS.

Got ours back today also. You don't know how much you miss something until its gone!!! Now, saturday she's getting new shoes. Still semi-highway Toyo Open Country H/T. With a 65,000 mi warranty, they have to be better than the Goodforayear Eagle LS 2s that were on it from the get go. Good luck Soph!

Just for reference, new pump is p/n 06E-121-018-A. Not sure what # the old one was. All the service people were gone by the time I got there. Looks fairly simple to change as its right in the front up high with not much in the way of removal. If it has to be done out of warranty, it won't be bad to do.

Kudos to Young VW for keeping me informed and working to get this fixed as fast as they could. Glad to see the rental HHR go. What a piece!

Water pump needs replacing 16K miles 11 months old

I also have a problem with the water pump on my V6 TDI 09/10. It is currently at dealer waiting for a water pump which is on delayed back order apparently (due to the number currently being replaced???). It has been at garage since 8th November and water pump was predicted as not being available until early December. Noticed water under car and then when engine running water and coolant was dripping out. Luckily I have heard this morning that pump is in and being fitted. My worry is its the same type of pump being fitted and there is a problem with these which means it will go again in the next 16K miles!

I may have the same issue... I'm not certain where the leak was coming from, but on my way home from work today the "Check Coolant, Owners Manual" message appeared in the MFD. I pulled into my garage and sure enough it was leaking from the bottom. I called my dealership and took it in this evening. They said they would be able to look at it first thing in the morning. I've had it for 8 months and it has just over 17200 miles on it...:(
Will post an update on the diagnosis.

Can everybody that has had this problem please post the production date of your vehicle? Also, can anybody who has an '09 or '10 V6 TDI that has over 15K miles that has NOT had a failed waterpump please post current mileage and manufacture date? I think it might be useful to collect this information. Mine was made 08/09, 3200 miles now and I could not find any sign whatsoever yet, however I wonder if the video of the noise I posted in a different thread could have been a noise from the water pump.

I'm probably jinxing myself by doing this...

Current Mileage: about 26,500 mi
Actual Production Week: 37/2009 (09/07/2009)

Knock on wood, no mechanical issues of any kind. :D

Got a call back from the dealership this morning and it is definitely a failure of the water pump. They don't have the part in stock and expect the earliest they'll receive it is late Monday. I'll post mfg date when I get it back since I don't have that info at the moment.

I found my leak which appears to be where the hose goes into the water pump. I am thinking a crappy clamp since it is one of those spring type clamps. I wiped all that down and will check it in a day or two to see if it is for sure that area then take it in to have them repair it. :)

My pump just gave up and thankfully it did it when I was still at home and not when I was driving it. Now I need to get it towed to the dealer and hope they can locate a pump quickly so it is not sitting there for very long.

Interesting, it seems as if not all the water pumps are bad. Anybody know if there's a TSB on this? It would be nice to get the updated pump before the suspect one breaks.
I would like to see what happens to those "good" ones after another 10-20000 miles. I'd also like to know if the bearings went first, then the seal, or what. Remember the "bell-shaped curve" from statistics class? This is just the beginning...

For everyones info I probably have the lowest mileage one that went out. I only have 8900 miles on my TDI, so no rhyme or reason to why or when.

I should have mine back by Wednesday hopefully, new pump is coming in tomorrow.

I am headed to pick up my TDI. I was only with out it for a day, so fortunately for me it worked out well with not having to wait for a part other then over night. I just hope this new pump is an improved part!! :)

Wow, that was fast. I'm glad to hear they were able to overnight the part and get yours fixed quickly. However, this makes me wonder why my VW dealership wasn't able to do the same. There seems to be a huge disparity between dealerships when it comes to ordering special parts.

I got a call from my dealer today stating that they don't expect to get the part in until this Friday at the earliest. And if it doesn't get there on Friday, it may be til Tuesday of next week before it arrives. :anger: <-- I want my Touareg back!!!

They did not show me the part, but the service desk guy went and looked at it so he knew what was up with it. Apparently there is a machined groove in the block of the motor where they apply for lack of better discription a bead of silicone in that groove. Well he said it is applied by a machine since you can physically see a start and stop. where it meets it does not have any over lap and left a gap. Over time I guess it eats away at the seal then the leak starts. What it does to the pump I am not sure, but mine was replaced. Only thing I can think is the seal is now part of the new pump. I really don't care as long as I don't go through this again.

Enigma, apparently I got lucky in that another dealer out here got one in for we think a repair, but never used it. It was sitting on their shelf, so my dealer took it from them and it was just overnighted. I really think I got lucky, but I have about three VW dealers here as well as Audi and Porsche Dealers, so there is a lot of stock to work from. It may have came from out of state too, I really did not ask, was just happy it got done. VW even paid for my rental car for the day. :)
