Another magnaflow exhaust!

I had read a lot f reviews on different exhaust setups and appreciate all the reviews. In the end I went with magnaflow muffler #11226 as others have done here. My exhaust consists of leistung bypass pipes, magnaflow X pipe to replace the stock H pipe then to magnaflow mufflers and finally dual tips. Overall I'm very pleased with the deep mellow tone at idle and more aggressive tone at WOT. It has mostly eliminated the card flapper sound and looks great. As for power, I haven't felt any difference. I currently have a GIAC tune and sprint booster. If it were in the budget I would have gone with the leistung single canister and cayenne turbo tips or a tubi exhaust but at almost half the price for basically a full custom exhaust with tips I couldn't resist. Also a note there is no highway resonance!

That is a really clean set up you've put together!

The card flapper sound is only there when the exhaust is still cold on my set up, do you find the same thing with yours?

As to the noise, I don't know if you noticed the fact that the driver side leg of the exhaust is a bit longer due to a little jog right before the stock H-pipe or not. Rob at Leistung and I had been discussing this as the most likely source for the flapper noise; the theory being that the difference in output from each leg is probably creating a fluctuation in pressure that makes that strange sound.

Rob had talked of developing a short piece that essentially would bolt in place after cutting out that jog. I'm sure that this is a long way off from being developed if ever so I had debated just having my local exhaust shop cut and weld in a piece that would essentially even out the two sides of the exhuast. Cheaper solution as well.

Seeing as how you saved so much on your "custom" exhaust, perhaps you have it in your budget to be the guinea pig on doing this? :) I really want to put this theory to bed but I don't have it in my budget currently so hopefully someone out there can give this a shot and report back to all of us.

I have stared at my exhaust, compared it to other OEM 4.2 V8 systems in use on Audi's, stared at my system some more, compared it to other full aftermarket systems for 4.2 V8s and this is the only difference I can find so my confidence is pretty high for success.

So, who will be the canary in the coal mine on this one? ;)

It's sound perfect for me! I will post a clip this weekend. As for the tips it's some generic brand that the shop got. Ive seen several similar tips on eBay for around $100

I'll look into it. Today while driving under a overpass I hammered it and heard a very very slight flapper noise but it may just be me. I haven't done any cold wot runs to check yet but I'll let you know. As for the length of the sides I do have basically new pipe from the bypass pipes back since they pushed the x pipe as far forward as possible. I'll take some more pics tomorrow. I also have decibel levels but don't have them with me right now

Post#26 in this link here, http://www.clubtouareg.com/forums/f95/my-leistung-exhaust-installation-70924-3.html , I have been 100% successful in getting rid of that flapping sound. In fact, it now sounds too TIGHT if I was to nit pick!

Nonetheless, I now love it! It now sounds like a quality sounding machine, and not a boat with a big block, not that there is anything wrong with that.

If you guys convince me enough, I might snap a pic of what the piping looks like from front to back.

A pic would be nice! I did a bunch of hard runs today to test for the flapping noise. As denker stated the flapper noise only when cold. I even let the egg sit for a 2 hrs and still did not get the noise. Also note that the little flapper noise I have is reduced significantly from what it was with the oem exhaust. I will post more pics later

I'll post a pic of my piping tomorrow.

Here is a post below from an other exhaust thread, and from Perry01, his flapping exhaust sound, that you can hear on the second rev. Listen carefully. This vid proves what I have said for the longest time. The flapping is coming upstream of the oem muffler. I managed to fluke it off and mine is completely gone. As I said, pic tomorrow on piping.

I'd like to start with replacing my H pipe with a resonating X pipe. The previous owner installed aftermarket mufflers but didn't recall what kind. I may also replace those too. Here is a clip of the motor revving, note the slight flapping sound. It is less noticeable under WOT acceleration:

^^^^I need to replay that on my tower speakers, as I'm hearing way too much high frequency noise from that exhaust sound through my iMacs speakers.

Out of curiosity, what kind of device did you use to record it?

I Used my iPhone and it really doesn't capture the true sound. Sounds kinda raspy from the vid. I'll try something else.

I purchased a magnaflow exhaust system for a V-6 2009+ Chevy Camero (They call it a pancake style muffler). Fit damn close to perfect. Sounds great and is really cheap to do.
Debating if I should by-pass the resonater (loos like another muffler) which is closer to the cat.
