Getting Airbag fault CODE B1036 13 (136) - Open Circuit
Crash Sensor Side airbag, passenger side.
If I clear the code it goes away until someone sits in passenger seat, then it returns.
Anyone else experienced this or have any idea what to look for?
2014 T-Reg TDI.
Very little information on this so far. Seems like could be one of the side crash sensors. Does anyone know where they are located in the T3 Touareg? Inside door or in floor panel near seat-belt?
I am chasing down something similar in my 2010 Jetta at the moment..... haven't done much digging yet, so I don't have anything useful to add at this time.

Actually I have not yet resolved the issue. I have not been able to locate the sensor, just this past weekend I even took out the passenger seat to check floorboard and the trim around seatbelt / lower pillar and it is nowhere to be found. I think it may actually be mounted in the door panel. I cannot find any info online for our generation I was even at VW dealer this morning asking for schematic and location but their computer was down. I know the part number is 7P0-959-354
Did you check bottom of pillar, under the carpet? I would expect the sensor pad to be there if not on the pillar itself. You should be able to trace the wire from that connector to "find it".

Perhaps someone familiar with the area can tell what it connects to. How did you come up with the affected part? How certain are you that it is the one?
I will search and compare the code with the codes listed for the previous generation where it was the wiring.
I had it all apart, pulled up carpet. Nothing, not even wires heading in that direction. I see other VW's have them in the door. Previous Gen T-Reg had them in floorboard under seat. I'm sure I saw your Jetta one in my searches somewhere.
Good site to know thanks. I just noticed the part # is actually listed in the VCDS error and mine is different:
Address 15: Airbags (J234) Labels:| 7P0-959-655.clb
Part No SW: 7P0 959 655 C HW: 7P0 959 655 C
Component: VW10Airbag025 H05 0025
Revision: -------- Serial number: 003L0003GHAR
It looks like a control unit for the air bag. Except I only see it ending in D not C.
Are you going to replace yours yourself? I don't know if I'm comfortable enough to tinker with air bag components. I also don't have any tools to remove door panels.
I will replace myself, there are a few videos on removing the door panel. As for power to sensor I simply unplug the fuse seeing as the battery is a pain to get to. Its fuse in holder number 14 on passenger side fuse panel. Should be 10 amp per diagram I read, mine was 7.5 amp.
Crap....I just found it. Mine is the control unit which is USD$688 which means it will be ~$1000 Canadian. I will take a look if I can find a procedure step by step on how to do it I might attempt it. You're lucky it's only the sensor for you.
I wonder if it's possible to find these used from a wrecker.

No, I have not tried it but I don't think it would help as it was a warning initially which turned into an error with the mil lit all the time now.
I need an oil change anyway so I'll see what they say as they usually scan for errors to see if they can drum up some extra business. I will get a quote from the dealer.
Good point, I was going to ask if it would make sense to remove/reinstall would make sense of it was just a connection issue. I would hope there are no wiring issues in a 7 year old 120,000kms vehicle!
I would also expect given the history with the previous model that it was fixed in the new one.
Exactly what I'm getting. I plan to test the connecter first to see if getting power.
As many of us VW owners know there have often been failures of wiring in door hinge area due to constant opening and closing of doors. Wires dry and brittle, cracking, moisture, corrosion, etc...
So I was dwelling on this last night. When I first started getting failures about a year ago I was able to re-set the code and it would only return once someone sat in the passenger seat. Leads me to believe the weight sensor in the seat may actually be the issue... Thoughts? Anyone know how to test it?
I downloaded all the service manuals posted in the other thread. It's a lot to go through but I will dig into the electrical to see if I can make heads or tails of it. With my rudimentary knowledge of electric circuits, I would guess that the switch in the seat completes the circuit and this is when the car recognizes that the circuit should be complete but it's not and throws the error.
I reset my code last night and I went to pick up someone and as soon as she sat down the fault light came back on. The car was running in while in park. According to my daughter, the airbag deactivated light does not come on when she gets out of the seat. I asked my wife to double check when they get home.
I may have to pick up a multimeter to help diagnose this but I would need some guidance where to start checking and if I have to start removing door panels/seats etc. I do have a generic toolset my father-in-law gave me years ago that was meant for cars but it would not have any special tools specific to VW if necessary.
Perhaps if we pooled our brain power/skills and with some help from others we can do this. It would be great if I could fix this as this would already pay for the cable as even my mechanic would charge at least an hour to look at this. Also, If I can avoid a $1000 control unit replacement I'd be extremely happy!
My seat switch seems to be working. I will remove door panel this weekend to check sensor and keep you posted on my findings.
Mine did exactly as yours in the beginning before becoming a permanent code.
