Hi there, I just bought my 04 Touareg and when the hvac was off and I started it it would stay off. Now that the stereo shop has installed a navi in it I notice when I turn the truck on after its sat an hour or so it comes back on in low. How can I turn this back off? Thanks!!

Take it back to the stereo shop and have them fix what they messed up. Not much we are going to be able to tell you since we don't know what they did to install your Nav unit.

Well I can already tell you if I brought it back they wouldn't know what to do first.. Clearly something was reset, but I was hoping you guys would know how to turn it off until I want it back on. I see alot of people complaining about this, and alot of people telling them its normal on the Touareg but I know it can't be because mine didn't do it when I first got it, also a few people did chime in on another post and say theirs did the same thing, while the concensus seems to think it's normal to come on each time. I am wondering if perhaps it's a setting for my key fob?

Is the orange bar on AUTO button illuminated?

No, I did look to see if it was. I am reading all over that it's normal for this truck to turn the air on everytime the truck starts, and I know I just got the truck and have only driven it a handful of times but I know it was off before, and now it's turning on everytime.. :(

What temperature have you got the two dials set at?

Same as always they are both set to LO. I turn it to OFF, and it used to stay off all the time, but now if I let the truck sit longer than 30min or so it goes back to LO when I start it, I just want the unit to stay OFF.

I'll have a look at mine in the morning.

In the meantime, always run the aircon on AUTO for at least 15 minutes once a week to move the oil in the refrigerant around to avoid the seals drying out.

Thanks for the help, I do run the air every so often even in winter for that very reason. I am wondering if the ac has to do with the fob settings.. Doesn't it save seat and mirror positions? I would bet it saves the hvac and maybe lights too? Just a thought, I know my BMW does that.

Sorry, I don't have fancy stuff like that on my car!

I can understand seat and mirror positions being on the fob if you have electric seats, but not the aircon settings - they might need to be different every time you get in the car according to ambient conditions.

The daytime running lights are controlled from the menus on the buttons on the steering wheel.

Thanks for the reply! If you don't mind my asking, what exactly was your problem? From what I have read everywhere that the blower no matter if I set it to off or not will always come back on when the truck is restarted after 30 minutes or more. For now I have it on econ mode so atleast the ac comp isn't kicking on everytime, but I could have sworn that my blower stayed off if I turned it off..

I have never tried turning my HVAC off before so I had a go tonight.

When I turn the fan right down, the "screen" above ECON goes blank and the one above the AUTO button reads OFF.

Turn the car off and then back on, and it is still OFF.

I haven't waited 30 minutes yet though . . . .

So I waited for an hour, went out, turned the car on and, yes, it has reset itself on both sides to the standard 22C.

My issues started when the passenger footwell temp control flap servo went out and would only blow cold air. Not bad in the summer when I bought it, but it soon became winter and it did not help clearing windows or making the passenger comfortable...aka my wife.
So I would keep it on Econ to get some warm air there.
I kept noticing the temp would randomly change. I keep it at 76f during winter... I would be driving and look to see 72, 75, 66... Wtf

I got a new servo motor and was able to run in auto, clear the windscreen of fog and keep a happy wife.
But the temp still changed at random to random degrees.
One day my wife and I saw it spaz out. Every light, every display setting kept changing... Looked like a disco or roulette wheel.... Round and round she goes...
Tried to turn it off but it would not stay off...

So I got another ac control head and things are good again.
The temp stays where I leave it, if it was on Econ it stays
If I set a temp it stays...if bothe the same or different each side it stays.
Me recirc setting will stay.
If driving, it will stay where inset it for the whole trip...several hours at times... Even if the setting is 'off'
When the car sits and I get back in it will however show the temp of last setting... If the setting was off it will show no bars on the fan speed with the temp showing.

FYI, my HVAC does the exact same thing, and I absolutely hate it. If I turn it off, it should stay off until I say otherwise, whether the car is off for 30 seconds or 30 minutes.

Oh well. I've lived with it thus far. If there is ever a "solution" or some vag coding that can
"fix" it, I'm interested.

I am wondering if it has something to do with the key programming. How the seats are programmed to the key. I read somewhere that it was, and there are people on other treg boards that claim theirs know how to stay off when told.

Bit late for a reply, but I discovered this happening.... If I had the ac in auto and adjusted something manually, like the fan speed, it would go back to full auto after a break... But, if I adjusted several things, like fan speed, temp, air direction, recirc... It never goes back to auto unless I press the auto again. I noticed this because two weeks ago I adjust the temp to low, and left the fan speed at two bars. Came back from vacation and it was hot out but the ac stayed on Low and two bars. If it was going back to auto it would have maxed out the fan and set the temp.
So I don't know if it will stay off, but you could leave it in the lowest fan and set the air diverted to floor and set a different temp.... See if your system will not jump back to auto.
