Air Suspension Compressor Fuse Blew

My air compressor was staying on longer than it should. Eventually, I heard it start to struggle and slow down, I went inside to check the forums and came back out, it was no longer running. I’m unsure if any pressure burst was audible.

I replaced the relay and then noticed the 40A fuse was blown so I replaced that which popped immediately when I went to start the car.

When I first noticed it was staying on, I was able to cycle to X-Off-road so I know it was holding pressure and parked it at normal height. Eventually, all air has been released, which I assume happened from it trying to level itself but could now be a leak. sometimes when I open the door, I can hear a faint sound like this trying to level itself by releasing pressure but it’s very faint since there’s no air in the shocks.

Regarding the fuse blowing right away, I read some comment how the compressor could be drawing too much power and needs to be replaced. I couldn’t really find any more info about this fuse blowing.

I haven’t scanned for any codes yet but I went ahead and ordered the compressor from two dealers, both of which have cancelled my order. GetVWparts.com told me it was backordered and would not provide any other info except (try your local dealer). I then tried xtremevwparts.com and waited a week to learn they also cancelled my order but without any notice.

QUESTIONS:
I’m going to get it scanned but why would the 40A fuse pop immediatey? Compressor seized?

Is there a way to inflate the system from an external source? I don’t want to introduce moisture.

Any recommendations on an aftermarket pump? I'd prefer OE since it was stated that others are much louder.

I used VCDS lite to take a look and the only related fault code I could find was 01400 Lower limit exceeded — intermittent. This was either in “34-Level Control” or “1C-Level Sensing”

The only other related section was “14-Susp. Elect.” which I could not get connect to. Is this normal?

Am I missing something? Are there any guides to the measuring blocks? Many are not labeled.

One more question: I haven’t yet pulled the compressor. Are there any special procedures? I only saw one post about using vcds to depressurize the system. I was scanning through the measuring blocks and saw one (unlabeled) that said 0 psi.

If I pull the compressor, do I have to plug any lines to prevent moisture from getting in?

The sales pitch.

Arnott has teamed up directly with WABCO to supply you with these aftermarket air compressors are made by the same supplier used by Audi, Porsche and Volkswagen!

Arnott now has the one-stop solution for those who prefer the original equipment.

This is just the compressor and dryer assembly. You may have to reuse some of your OEM hardware during the installation. Compressor comes with detailed installation instructions.

Thanks for the link. I found them in another thread, they don’t sell to the public. The part at ORielly is almost $1200. ECS is it for $950. I’m just pissed that the other two site I mentioned were about $200.

Module 34 is where you want to be. If your compressor is running too long, you either have a leak or the compressor has a bad ring and isn’t building pressure.

Thanks for the note on #34.
The compressor doesn’t run at all, the fuse pops immediately. Today I unplugged all 3 connectors and gave it a test, the fuse didn’t pop.

I’m assuming the pump is seized. I think I would have gotten a code if it were the sensor?

I didn’t replace the relay under the seat, only the one under the dash. I’ll be getting that replaced too, just waiting for the parts to arrive.
