the V10 has 290000km on the clock and its done a lot rough corrugated roads.
IMO my suspension is feeling harsh, like its got no dampening. doesn't seem to make any difference weather its on comfort or sport.
i assume the shock is not rebuildable? so I got to looking for replacements.
took me a while to recover after the local dealer told me the price ($4700 each).
but an ebay store has replacement struts for a fraction of the price. Has anybody used these ebay units? are they a viable alternative.

thx for your input

Have you scanned the system to ensure that you don't have any faults in it?
Have you logged\monitored the voltages going to the valves when you select various settings?
Are you sure your existing hardware\system is functioning as it should?

dampening. weather
Is it raining in Australia?

Now, whether your dynamic damping works or not is based on several factors. As stated, scan module 34 for codes, and check the current values going to the dampers.

I’d stay far away from random Chinese parts, especially those as critical as suspension parts.

I didn't specifically scan the suspension but have done a full scan and didn't notice anything on the suspension?
might be worth checking eh. I'll do a suspension scan over the weekend.

the OEM price for 4 shocks is more than the car is worth, I'm guessing the ebay units come out of the same factory bu go out the back door instead of the VW distribution system which will add 10x markup...

Aerosus is a supplier which has German and UK websites.

Arnott is another supplier which has US and EU websites.

Unknown shocks can be found on Alibaba.

I even see the air shocks being sold on Amazon.

google.com/search?q=audi+air+suspension+self+study+program

There is a voltage that is applied to each shock to control the stiffness. This voltage needs to be checked at the shock itself.

Highly recommend these guys. I've bought all my air suspension struts / compressors etc from here. Great gear and arrives form Germany to Perth in only a few days and cheap freight. I usually ring my orders through and pay with card and even get offered a discount over the phone. These struts have been up and down the Gibb River Road and all sorts of off road no probs.

No the Ebay ones you are looking at are most likely poor quality Chinese versions. I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole.

Does your x-tra level work and add at least 6" to the ride height?

Can you fully lower it into jacking mode?

If you change from comfort mode to sport mode does anything change?

yes air levels work fine. hardly any difference between sport and comfort mode. it feels like there is no rebound dampening.

I'd rather not fit after market shocks.
Then it is time to pay the dealer price. We have never located an OEM aftermarket supplier and people have been looking since 2004.

The ride height and the stiffness/dampening are two separate systems.

1. The height is controlled by how much air is in the air bag.

2. The stiffness is controlled by an electrical voltage applied to the shock/strut assembly, located in the center of the air bag assembly. If this voltage is not there, then the shock "stiffness" will not change.

For your problem, you need to check the voltage applied to the each shock and to see if the voltage is changing between comfort and sport mode. Hint: it should change.
