Just lost my HPFP and injectors, still runs but when I went to investigate the filter was dirty and a rust color dirt in the bottom of the filter. Pretty bad fuel I would say! We know the last station but how the heck do you prove it!

I thought it was just the normal HPFP failure but the bottom of the filter housing is telling a different story.

Yeah, that seems bad! Bummer.

I would probably start by talking to the station, explaining the evidence, and just asking them to pay. They probably have insurance that would cover such things.

You could possibly file an insurance claim against your own insurance if you have comprehensive...

Small claims court would be an option, but I think you would need some 3rd party analysis showing the fuel is bad.

I wouldn't solely rely on your insurance for testing.

I'd get two samples. Take one to a lab (they're not particularly hard to find, Fluid Life is one I've used before) for independent analysis.

Take the second sample to a VW dealership and tell them you have a possible warranty claim. They show 100% fuel contamination when it comes to warranty repairs.

Used some janky off-brand back-woods fuel station?

Not to mention, that if it was a bad tank, all that crud and rust would be filtered out of your pump.... I'd say that based on what you're showing, you've been running crappy fuel for quite a while... Rust and loss of lubrication to cause flakes and all that doesn't happen that quick... you need a bunch of run time to get there

Kinda, it’s a little back woods but a very busy middle of town station.
Probably the reason why. Was it citgo, shell, mobil etc?

Receipts are your best friend. Also ask for them and keep them for at least 6 months. Claims are much simpler with black and white, it will show pump number, the amount of diesel and the place you went to. And what you paid with etc.
If the station doesn't want to play, small claims court will probably only hear your case if you have evidence, ie Receipt. If you don’t have one your probably SOL.

I have the receipts from last September to current in my glovebox from every fill.

I keep my fuel receipts on CRs so long that the ink fades and I can no longer read them......
On my Jetta (RIP), I was probably driving around with 6 year old receipts by the time I even took them out of the vehicle and threw out all the faded ones.... I wouldn't be surprised if I have 3 year old ones in the egg currently as I only remember "emptying" them once since I've owned it....
