ADM Treg range?

Hello fellas,
Work is taking me from the US to Melbourne for a number years. Family is up north in Brissy and I plan to make the trip north a couple times/year. Beyond that the typical Aussie bucket list spots are on the agenda along with higher risk out-bush solo trips. Travel will be me + 2 and possibly the mother-in-law (QLD). Brother-in-law has a work ute D-Max and we have done some beach trips up past Rainbow Beach. He needs a locker....

In the US 3.0 TDI is a bit of a unicorn with most of ours being the V6 petrol or the monster V10 diesel. I see in OZ that most Tregs are the 3.0 TDI, which ticks the box for economy well enough for me, Im anticipating a hit for about 3MPGs when going to a 32" tire (I know, metric...). Looking for a lower k Treg with locking rear and low range My understanding is that locking rear = locking center transfer? Going to need air struts to accommodate tires for off-road duty, but not a deal breaker as I can always do a 25-50mm lift on conventional springs. The Touareg wiki is pretty crap and very little (if any) focus on ADM offerings. I "think" ADM had a center/rear lock with air springs and low range available to 2015? Please confirm or comment? Looking for the latest model year possible, lowest k, while keeping low rage lock, and the diff lock. TIA.

Hi @albersondh sounds like you have a great plan. The pre-loved low mileage Touareg market is quite small in Australia and vehicles seem to sell quickly. Have a look at (carsales dot com dot au)
Aftermarket upgrade components for the Touareg is also small. The V6 TDI does a great job, just keep an eye on the tow ball weights for the selected vehicle and trailer

G'Day @albersondh,

I'm sure others here with way more knowledge than me will chime in but if you want the locking centre diff option, the vehicle you are searching for is a 4XMOTION (as opposed to a 4MOTION). Now, part of the issue is people who advertise having the 4X who actually don't have one and don't understand the difference. There are a few visual clues, the main one being the right hand dial on the console will have additional settings and graphics indicating locking diff, etc.

This is what you're looking for:
242030

If there is no close up of that dial, get the seller to send a pic to you for absolute clarity. Other than that, in trying to identify one, the 4XMOTION came standard with a 100L tank, alloy pedals, silver dash/door/console trim, oval exhaust outlets, and according to the brochure of the time, grey & silver lower door side an bumper trim. They also weren't offered in the 7P6 update so you're looking for a 2011-2014 vehicle only.

I just looked on carsales and of the 11 supposed 4XMOTION vehicles for sale, from the photos available I can only confirm 1 as being a 4X: https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/de...tails/2011-volkswagen-touareg-v6-tdi-7p-auto-4xmotion-my11/SSE-AD-6861618/?Cr=3

Hope this helps,
Oz

Very good explanation, thank you. Seems the talent pool is open all the way through 2015 which is great news. Time is on my side, working/living in CBD I won’t “need” personal transport immediately.
Any known Aussie based companies producing Treg specific gear? Tire carrier, roof rack, skid plates, ect? The range is thin in the US but I have an opportunity to buy ahead and ship assuming no availability in Oz.

Thanks again.
