Hi All - Hoping for some help tracking down a ghost in my 2007 V10 TDI

I have a few symptoms, all intermittent and all persistent. Vehicle has 162K miles on it. I was going through a series of Check engine light and intermittent white smoke coming out the back. Took it to a local german vehicle specialist, and to the dealer, along the way replaced both batteries, the fuel filter, EGR system, both turbos, combo pump (coolant and fuel?? under the hood), both MAF sensors, and a thermostat. Meanwhile I still have an intermittent (but now more regular than ever) check engine light. I get a frequent smell of diesel fumes in the passenger compartment, and the tail pipes do have a black soot on them. Smoking seems reduced, but is not absent, and perhaps is the regen mode for the particulate filter? Kessy stopped working a few months ago, and in getting the part number to figure out where to find a replacement (still need one) I noticed some bare wires on the module immediately next to the Kessy (not sure what this box is or where to find out). I'm also getting an intermittent ESP light on the dash, followed by rougher shifting. This happens even when either on the highway, or even stopped, it used to come with a lit up "tree" but hasn't done that in a while. The mechanic indicates my errors are all intermittent and that the sensors all appear to be operating within normal range most of the time.

I bought the Vag.com scanner and have posted the faults below. I note the repeated appearance of intermittent. Not sure what would cause this. Any help is greatly appreciated. Note - aside from all these issues the T-REX drives like an absolute beast, and does not appear to suffer from any power loss etc. Occasional light shudder when smoking, but barely noticeable.

Had hoped for some input, did I list too many things at once for someone to make suggestions? Of note. The entire ABS issue goes away immediately when I restart the car. Then comes back again after a few dozen miles or so. Any thoughts?

All I can say from the picture is "That don't look good!"

Look up the threads about a bad canbus wire near the drivers door. That is my first guess and it is not that hard to confirm. The dropout of the network means a lot of different random errors get set.

So, clear codes, drive the vehicle a while and pull codes again. If it is the canbus wire spice going bad, you will get a new bunch of different random errors set.

PS: The canbus splice will always fail. It is not a question of if, just a question of when. It will pretty much go after it gets wet, so it varies. But sooner or later, it will happen.

OK Thanks very much. I'll start there and see where this leads.
