Finally found a set of cargo management system rails from a 958 Cayenne come up for sale and pulled the trigger almost as soon as I saw them yesterday.

I've always thought that the system was slick and have a notion to build a couple of my own trunk accessories (a custom dog kennel and a locking drawer system) that would also use the rails for a secure attachment point, but availability of the rails is limited in the US where this was never an option on the Touareg.

Based on the parts catalog, I'm pretty sure the 7P upgrade only requires the rails themselves and a couple of M8 bolts, unlike other platforms I've read about like the Q7 and Macan that need other (even harder to source) brackets and floor trim pieces.

FWIW, the 7P Touareg/958 Cayenne-specific parts are the rails: 7P0863556A and 7P0863555A

Be nice to see the finished product. This is a mod that would come in handy.

I too would love to see exactly how these are mounted, and most importantly... what they do.
Looking forward to follow up posts on this.

So it's to hold cargo in place against the back of the back seats.
Do the rails get in the way of lifting the spare tire cover?
I just bought some marine grade bungee cord, cut two pieces different sizes and put the plastic coated metal hooks on the end. I hook them onto the two rods mounted within the back of the seat. I use them mostly when I do beer runs and don't want the cases sliding around. For storing them I leave them slightly stretched from rod to rod across the back seat.

Parts got here early and I couldn't wait to go out to check the fit. There are no other parts needed besides the rails other than four triple-square M8x30 bolts. (One was wedged inside one of the rails I got, so I have a reference.) There is one hole with an M8 threaded captive nut in the floor between the two holes for the standard tie-down hooks at each corner.

Pictures coming soon. I need to go buy a few bolts before I call it done.

Re: The system - it's configurable with several accessories that all lock into the floor rails. The rails consist of a steel core channel surrounded by an aluminum face/sides and plastic end caps. All the accessories I know of are shown in the picture above (I've not bought those yet.)
1. Tie down hooks - repositionable - the first set I'll buy
2. Rigid bar (it extends to fit any diagonal you want - the towers move)
3. Retractable strap

The attachments come off for storage or to access the spare tire/ AdBlue well as needed. There is even a handy storage case that comes with them when you buy the whole set.

nice! didnt even know this was a thing but looks pretty slick

theres some interesting retrofit threads on rennlist as well

there appears to be other accessories including some kind of soft strap that goes between them

apparently also shared with the audi C6 chassis, likely for less money than the porsche option?

Yup - the system is used widely across the VAG lineup. The 4F9* parts are not vehicle-specific, and can be had cheap. (Sets of tie-down hooks are as little as $20 for four on eBay.)

Interestingly, the rails I got came from a Cayenne, but have VW part numbers on the stickers that they show them as Porsche part numbers. Hadn't seen that article, but now I see you can find the rails all over the place using the numbers in the Rennlist article, although new prices are crazy high... because Porsche.

The factory gorilla mat wasn't in my calculus because I had to throw out the original one...there was a wet dog kennel smell in it that would just not come out no matter what I did. I have records to prove the first owners got all the preventative maintenance done, but they sure didn't clean it well!!!

You know, thank you for posting this, and additionally the Cayenne tread which has all the easy to find part numbers. I’m going to pull the trigger on this; I didn’t know I needed this until I saw it..lol. This will really be nice to use to organize when we go camping, etc..

Still waiting on the bolts, but finally took some pictures this evening. It's about the simplest swap ever.

I have one bolt from the Cayenne these rails came out of; waiting on a set of VW ones that will all match (Porsche for some reason uses a larger triple square in the head, but otherwise the dimensions are the same.)

Can you open the spare tire well cover with them in place?

Yep - no change to that. These just replace the carpeted pieces on either side of the tire well cover.
OK I see it now. Just the narrow strips on each side.
