I have a 2011 V-6. I'm getting too old to crawl around doing maintenance like the old days, so even though my extended warranty has expired, I still take it to a VW dealer for it's annual maintenance. My VW has 53k on the odometer, but I do each annual maintenance as if I put 10k a year on it. I consult my VW supplied maintenance manual for each annual. This year's big items (besides all the 'inspect' this and that) was oil, rotate and brake flush and the quote was for $275. But let me say this... as I frequently find, from one service technician to another, at the same dealer, you can get different quotes for the work. My initial quote was $410. 2 days later, with a different technician, it was $275. And another thing, I took the Touareg in the next day and this same technician was trying to change the price (up) until I cleared up the facts of our conversation. It wasn't confrontational, just one of those 'misunderstandings'.

I would recommend pulling out the maintenance section of your owner's manual and look at what VW recommends for your 50,000 annual service. Comparing your maintenance manual to your dealer's recommendations is a good discussion to have with them. Having had German cars in my garage since 1974, I always make best efforts to comply with the manufacturer's recommended service. Those guys have a history of making good, reliable, well engineered cars. If money is an issue (or maybe you just like working on cars) then do it yourself. Yes, you can most likely get away with deferring some of their recommended maintenance items but I would analyze the risk before doing so. If you're still on some kind of warranty, not complying with recommended maintenance could void your warranty. Hope this helps
