This post might just break this forum, as just about anyone I've ever met with a 3L TDI wants some sort of ability to check the potential doom of their timing chain skipping.

Edit:
Since there aren't too many users reporting values at the moment, I will keep updating the table for now to provide an easy to read reference.

The following information is what I've learned from reading way too many posts on the subject.

I strongly suggest that anyone with the ability to post their own details contributes to this so that we can come up with some consensus of potential feasibility.

Here are my values.
CNRB with ~150k (km)
I don't have any noticeable rattle or noise concerns.
You want your engine warmish fully warmed up before taking the reading.

You're interested in the adaptation value. Ideally, it's zero, but as your chains wear, they will get noisy and once you get around -8 to -9 you can expect a failure. At that point you should have a significant amount of rattle, especially on cold startups.

People with short OCIs and quiet chains report being around the -5 value at about 100-120k miles.

Post your details and let's see if there's any truth to these rumors!

2014 with just over 370k km. idling at 759 rpm, 91c coolant temp adaptation was -5.16. I am the original owner, 15k km oil change interval typical with an occasional shortening of interval if I felt the conditions dictated, or the timing was convenient to get it done earlier. I have looked after the majority of the service myself. I ran castrol oil and oem filters to about 300k, since then have been using mobil 507 spec oil and wix filters. I have chain rattle for about a second on warm starts only- the car has been off for an hour or so. If it hasn't done that since new, it was shortly after that it started. I dont remember it not doing it.

2012 7P with CATA engine. The engine starts with chain rattle only after sitting for a very long time. For instance, we went on a 2.5 week vacation and the car sat the whole time. Under normal conditions it's quiet and has given me no issues.
104,000 miles
760 rpm
79 deg C coolant temp
79.1 oil temp
Camshaft adaptation fluctuates between 3.8 - 4.5 at idle.

I'm not sure why people find it so difficult to provide the few details that are being tracked following the same format, etc.
Tell me the basics, and then add whatever else you want to it. Don't give me ranges, or only some of the 5 parameters that we're tracking.... it's pretty simple.
