Regeneration takes SOOT (aka diesel combustion byproduct) and burns it off. The result is ASH (technically, stuff that can't burn off\down any more).... so think of when you have a camp fire and when it's all done, you have a pile of ash... no matter how much you try to burn that down, there's no combustible stuff left, so it never goes away... you eventually have to dig out you firepit to clean it.

Based on your reported value (check with others with similar engine code and you'll see the massive discrepancy), your system was reset, your ECU was reset, your ECU was replaced, your DPF was replaced, or a combination of those.....

There's no way at that age/milage you have such little ash.

no indication on the carfax that anything has been replaced dpf wise, but i have no idea what was done to it by vw part of the fix beyond s/w updates. were they ever in the habit of replacing dpf hardware during the fix?

edit- then i threw in a couple more that i thought would be interesting, and forgot to expand the name on the viewer window so they were legible hah
go figure

I just noticed that you can actually find average travelled distance between regens using VCDS. This can be useful if you monitor it over the lifetime of your ownership to see how your driving/use patterns and DPF lifespan impact it.

Yes it is original. Im not having any check engine lights or anything yet, but I guess Ill have to do some soul searching where to go sooner than later. I may delete, but I also back into an attached garage, so I and more so my family like the lack of diesel fragrance. My emissions equipment has been pretty solid, only one heater replacement that VW reimbursed, so I dont feel the same need as some to get rid of it. Most likely if I can get this one cleaned, or replace it for not a lot of $$$, id probably go that way.

I've heard that they can be cleaned. I'd only do chemical cleaning if it were mine, like oven cleaner soaking and then garden hose rinsing... (Off the vehicle of course)
None of these other crazy pressure washer and fire hydrant methods being thrown around here.

Keep in mind that the accumulation is only a calculation/estimation and not an actual measurement. It's a best guess ECU calculation based on operating conditions, number if regens, etc.

You could start monitoring pressure difference or maybe check the previously mentioned average distance between regens to see if your active regens are increasing in frequency.
