2500 rpm oil pressure

I have a 2010 TDI V6. Any time I accelerate and hit 2500+rpm I have an alert come up "oil pressure, engine max 2500rpm". I have had the oil pressure sensor replaced, and both my Nox sensors. It's a pain on a highway when I want to pass someone. Any ideas what it could be? It goes away after I stop and restart.

Could you guide me how to install / measure oil pressure with a mechanical gauge in the 3.0L TDI? I get the 2500 rpm warning too often... Ignored it at first, but now getting pinging clanging rattle sound, which is worrisome. Other than the sound the Touareg drives fine. I changed the oil & filter less than 2000 miles ago with Liquid Moly 15W-30. Any suggestions would be deeply appreciated!

Pinging, clattering and clanging is never a good sign...

I was afraid that "Pinging, clattering and clanging" wouldn't be a good sign... but do you have any suggestions how to tell, for example if it's a timing chain issue? (what leads me to this consideration is that the sound diminishes, even goes away, when I drive above 1500 rpms, also gets quieter momentarily when I release the accelerator, as if the load on the engine plays a role as opposed to some mechanical part like valve lifters being bent or seizing), or could it be the bearing on a water pump or something else like that... I don't live close to a dealer and after they charged me close to $4k to replace the alternator and do an oil change (as well as keeping the car for 3 weeks and putting 156 miles on it while it was in)... I'd rather avoid the trip before I know that I can't do it myself...

Thanks for any diagnostic tips!

Take a high quality video of it idling and driving it down the road.

The 7P V8 TDI has a variable displacement oil pump that is controlled by engine ECU based on engine load and engine speed. Don't know if the 2010 V6 TDI has similar but if it does that may be causing the issues described.

Could be many things that went wrong. It definitely didn't sound good. Too hard to tell with the limited information and video though. Hoping for the best. Extended emissions warranty will probably cover a new long block

I have gotten this same warning recently on my 2010. It only seems to happen when on the highway at steady speed AND usually after I haven't driven it for several days. Would it be a stretch that maybe it's time for a new battery? Reason I mention the battery is I have gotten some other random warnings and I feel like I read something about a low battery in another thread...

I doubt it's the battery that would trigger the "2500 rpm oil pressure" warning as it happens (at least in my case) as I enter and go above the 2000-2500 rpm range, where the alternator should be putting out sufficient voltage. There are other links that point to a faulty sensor. I would take this seriously though and either replace the sensor or try to diagnose.

It could be the sensor as was suggested in other posts here, but if it truly is a problems with oil pressure, I'd be very careful. Volkswagens-for-life suggested earlier that it could be oil pump going weak. I think this scenario might have led to a catastrophic engine failure in my case (pistons against valves...)

Sucks that this is happening going into the "f*ck it's too cold to be doing this sh*t" time of the year 😂. After reading another thread about loss of mpg possibly due to soot build up in the intake I guess I don't have any choice but to tear into that and look at the sensor/switch while I'm there...

Loss of mpg is likely temperature related now than anything

Hello RMain
I know it’s been several years since you posted this but I’m just wondering if you ever figured it out because I have a 2010 Volkswagen Touareg, that is doing the exact same thing as you described
Any info would be helpful
thanks Don

Yes the 2500 rpm alarm was due to Oil Pressure Regulation Valve N428. Located at front of engine - driver side - at bottom next to belt. Oil pressure sensor is next to it.
The N428 routes the oil flow a different directions when engine reaches 2500 rpm.

We also had the ping noise on rear engine - driver side. This require new timing chains and gear on back of engine.
