First one I've done. It went well, but the instructions from VW don't quite match the actual menu options in my R-line with Innovision. I wrote up a more accurate description for someone in the Aus Touareg owners FB group.
Whether extracting the zip file direct to the SD card, or extracting to the local hard drive and then copying to the SD card, it is essential that the Meta and Data folders are at the root level on the SD card. There can't be a folder on the SD card that contains them. Once you insert the card with the folders correctly loaded, on turning the car on you'll see a message that software update is available - nice but it doesn't actually get you to the update screen and the VW instructions are not as precise as they should be. Touch the Menu button then touch Settings to open the System Settings screen, then touch System Information, then touch Update Software. A progress page will then be displayed. The update took near enough to 1 hour. I did connect a 30A Victron Bluetooth charger, which shows voltage and current. The charger got to its float stage close to the end of the update, but was still pushing out around 20A at that point, which I guess is close to the base load of the car with just ignition on and all other services such as lights, air con fan and interior lights turned off. So connecting a decent capacity charger is probably worthwhile.
