I am honing in a bit on the oil in this vehicle/engine. The only driver indication in regards to oil is an MMI oil level display. It has no dipstick nor oil temp. gauge. This is all new to me. In reading the manual (and experience in the first hundred miles or so), the display only works when the engine is not running and the computer has had a few minutes to get a reading. With 3500 miles on it, the display now always works and always read the same "full", regardless of whether the engine is running, off, wait/no wait. I don't doubt the reading necessarily, but apparently there was no break-in drop in oil level, nor was there any drop even after my 1500 mile round-trip with the vehicle.

I have marked a dipstick when I got the vehicle, to be able to gauge a dipstick oil level reading- I am assuming the display was accurate when I got it. Since it also has no oil temp. gauge, how is someone suppose to know what the oil temp is and whether there is an issue? whether it is running hot offroad or long trips?

How is the oil cooled? Can you use the coolant temp gauge to give you an idea of the oil temp.? I believe that there is an oil pressure sensor (thinking that may be low oil indicator?) Would that have any utility?

This is alot of questions, but I am surprised that something so basic and critical as engine oil (unless readings can be dealt with now in a different way- with redundancies) has been removed from the owner's knowledge

Anyone? If I can get the oil pressure, in either Bar or PSI, displayed, would that and/or the coolant temp gauge give me any info. regarding the oil temp.? i.e. assuming coolant gauge is in normal range and pressure is higher than normal, the oil is thinner/hotter?

Sorry for the newbie type question but does coolant (and percent H2O) factor into oil temp?

Totally agree with your comments. Appears there is nothing. One thought, could one obtain oil temp and/or pressure reading from an OBD II reader?
