Good article. Really like my '14 GC Summit Diesel ....except.....

Now if Jeep could just fix mine. Shakes at 100 km/hr, pulls left, no 'on center feel', and the front tires are wearing like they are toed in. Gonna give this dealer one more attempt(this will be the 5th)...then off to another dealer and start a file with Chrysler head office.

One thing mentioned is wrong, the fuel door does lock when you lock the doors, they say it doesn't. My AC is better than the MDX I had, one of their complaints. Overall not a bad article considering they are a Mopar oriented site

Good thing they mentioned the poor handling of the jeep. We had a jeep and it had the same issues. Check out this video of the Jeep Grand Cherokee failing the Moose Test!

Horrible!

Wow!!! I hadn't seen that before, unbelievable. Sorry but that is far more of a problem than the ****storm going on about the TDi issue right now at Volkswagon. The Volvo and especially the Touareg look like they are just cruising thru the tests. How come no one has brought this to light? I wouldn't want to own any car that does that in an emergency maneuver and I actually considered buying a Grand Cherokee. Very glad I didn't. Amazing and scary video and a must watch for anyone considering a new SUV.

Ask the Jeep engineers to stand in as cones during the moose test. See if they will "stand by their product". I suspect they would turn tail and run.

Given the sheer number of recalls of Jeep/Chrysler products, I wonder why anyone would buy one.

Totally not defending Jeep here, but I did notice that they said it had "Quadra-Lift", (set to Auto) which is Jeep's name for air suspension. Since it's European, I assume they used a Touareg with air as well. It almost looks like the suspension is simply tuned WAY too soft. Watching that front left dig in (and blow multiple times), it's a matter of too much weight on the corner - due to chassis tuning - which I would attribute to springs that are too soft, and shocks that allow too much travel - the air suspension. Just my .02.

As much as I loved the air ride on my 08, (with 17's no less), I've got to say there is a lot less body roll on the steel on my 14.

treg vs. jcg

Having driven both cars back to back just last week when test driving cars, there is no comparison between the Treg and JGC.. Treg feels like a 911 compared to the jcg at highway speeds. Handing is far sharper, ride is better and overall quality appears much higher. These were 2 cars that were appx same sticker price both with around 50k miles. (2012 treg tdi and 2013 JCG Summit overland).

My wife knows nothing about cars but has wanted a JGC, I asked her to drive the Treg (cause I want one :)). She was sold on the first drive.

Same for us. When shopping for a new SUV, we test drove both a Touareg and a Jeep Grand Cherokee. It was immediately obvious, even to my wife, that the handling and ride of the Touareg was superior to the JGC. You see what we bought. :)

I too drove the Touareg and a JGC SRT back to back while renting a Mazda CX5. So, basically comparison the three.

The only thing that I'd say the JGC SRT is better than the Touareg is the power, but of course the SRT comes with a price tag. Everthing else feels like a Dodge Caliber we used to own... transmission and brakes work, at least for the testdrive, but the lack of refinement is very obvious. oh, another one, I do like Jeep's remote start...

But what gets me decided is when you get on the Touareg, you can feel the butter smooth power delivery the very first moment you step on the gas.

Add me to the list. I looked at the Jeep, Q7, and also X5, ML 350, and briefly the Cayenne. I started the process pretty sure I was going to get a Q7 or a JGC, but I found both to be disappointing. The Jeep did not feel like it had the same level of quality as the others, the Q7 was a bit of a pig and I think they screwed up on the interior.

The Touareg seemed to have nailed what I was really looking for. It is high up like an SUV, has room for the kids and the dog, power to tow, etc. but it drives more like a sedan than a truck and has all the comfort and features of a luxery vehicle. A great set of compromises.

I never liked the jeep, test drove it a few times. A little too foofy for me. I picked the touareg, it was a better vehicle. Jeep will never come close. Treg rode better, handled better and offroaded better.

A friend at work just purchase JGC. He was telling me his oil change was $300 to $400. I thought the Touareg was bad.
