Hi all
I'm brand new to this page.
I have worked my arse off to buy a 2014 TDI V8 Volkswagen Touarge R-line with 98,000ks on the clock, from a small dealership in Perth, Western Australia.
We purchased it just over seven months ago. From the delivery date until now we have had about two weeks without the car having either one of these issues;
Restricted driving mode with the coil light on, the DPF light saying refer to owners manual, or the engine light being on.
The car has been in the shop off and on for more than six months of our ownership.
I traded my Ford Ranger ute in for what I thought was going to be the answer to my wifes 4 hour round trips for chemotherapy treatment every second week, that we have been doing now for 4 years.
I purchased the touarge thinking it was one of Volkswagens top car's and it should do us well in our long hard journey.
Don't get me wrong the dealership seem to be trying everything to stop this happening.
From brakes out of adjustment, to oxygen sensor, to new ECU, wiring harness, And a cleaned DPF filter. And then a new DPF filter. Its just had a new exhaust gas kit and many many hours of diagnosis work has been done on the car. We got the car back yesterday afternoon once again from the volkswagen dealership supposedly fixed again. I drove my wife through to Perth for chemotherapy again we got 109ks from home and the DPF Light came on again referring us to the owners manual again. We continued on the extra 100ks to the Perth hospital hoping it would do a burn and sort it's self out. After we finished at the hospital we set off for home two hours plus drive away. Half way home the orange engine warning light came on.. please can anyone help with answers..
I would ask for the dealership to take the car back if we weren't going to loose so much money in change over charges.
We do love the car and would dearly love for it to be fixed and the problems to be gone. It just feels like the volkswagen dealership mechanics just have no idea. PLEASE HELP WHAT DO WE DO.
Regards,
Stu.

Do you have another dealership to give a second opinion?

Welcome Stu
I take it by your description, you're (maybe) located near Busselton or similar?
Yep, it's frustrating when a dealership has no idea what's going on. Is the car under any sort of warranty?
Do you feel like speaking with an independent VW technician (who, in the main, have much more idea about what the problem is, because they are not tied to VW corporate servicing rules).
If you would consider getting a 2nd opinion, then depending upon your location, I can certainly recommended a few places for you to have the car inspected at, for diagnostic purposes.
Let us know where you reside (general geographic area will be fine) and I'll give you a list for you to contact ;)

We are in Bunbury.
The car is covered under I guess the three month second hand dealership warranty.
Even though it's now offer seven months.
The dealership we brought the car from in perth wasn't a volkswagen dealership. So after their first attempt at trying to fix the problem. On delivery day.
Which was a forced regen burn. They then passed the car on to the local Bunbury Volkswagen dealership.
Who to date say the cost has been upwards of 15,000 dollars ish.
Thank goodness we haven't spent a sent so far.
Because with our current situation the car would have been park up.😑 We only have the one car
And the dealership has given us a lone car when they can.
Its now just the complete frustration and lack of confidence we have in the car 🤧.
I would be very grateful if you could pass on any of those recommendations for us.
Thank you.
Steve

Yes to hours travel away in Perth.
Not that I would no whom to go to..
But as the car is being covered under the three month second hand dealership warranty.
Even after seven months.
Because the problem has been happening from the day it was delivered.
There has been on cost to us.. (THANK GOD)
My grave fear is they are going to give up.
And just say you car your problem
I guess I'm just hoping someone had a magic fix up their sleeve..
👍

Volkswagen won't give up at this point, but I'd definitely have it carted to the next dealership. Get another set of eyes and opinions on the car

The closest to you, independent would be Eurotechnik European Car Mechanic | Service, Repair & Performance | Euro Technik
I would also suggest the following (in order of my preference)
Philip - Eurospec - Audi service Perth | VW Repair Perth
Steve - https://www.waeuro.com/

feel free to mention me with Phil or Steve. They could assist with diagnostics etc, and I believe they would each have a solution to remove the issue you're having. They each have a loan car....to keep you mobile (may be conditions attached - but it may only be a one day job) :)

Talk to them first.....
I think if you go to another VW Dealer (John Hughes, Melville VW, Osborne Park etc), they will probably not honour that warranty you have and the $$$s will start eaching from your pocket before they have provided a solution.

Each of the independents I have provided you really know their stuff, and certainly with Phil or Steve, be happy to offer 'over the phone' consultation, but of course, would want to see the vehicle before providing a more thorough diagnosis.

Thats the predicament and the saving grace that its all being covered so far under that three month warranty.
Which in today's world is amazing and were completely thankful for that..
Its just the time factor and the complet guessing game that seems to be going on..
I'm more than happy to have a independent diagnosis done and pay for it.
If it brings us to a solution. And I'm sure everyone involved would be as well.

Hi Stu-
I had the same issue with my 12 treg. Dealer had it for weeks trying to figure out what was causing the issue. They drained the DEF lines, cleaned them, multiple forced regens, etc. Finally replaced the ECM and that worked initially but had to erase the ECM and reprogram with data directly from VW USA. That was about 6 months ago and I haven't had the problem since. Has your dealer looked into the ECM?

Thank for you reply

G'day Stu, I also live near Bunbury and do not trust the local dealer. I am on my 2nd Treg, now 2015 V6 Tdi. I do most of my work myself, but For spcialty work, I take it a very good mechanic in Perth. Reply and I would be happy to Help in any way I can. I also have an OBDEleven V2, to help with home diagnostics.

Yes and go to the place you bought the car from and try to convince them that it may be cheaper for them if they pay someone else to do the work for you. If that works, get that in writing otherwise you may have to pay the new mechanics for the work done.

I say this because I've learnt from my own experiences with warranties. I had the place that I bought my Treg from, pay the local VW experts to fix something under used car warranty. That worked out well for me.

Also, under the Australian Consumer Laws, you are allowed to claim reasonable costs for getting your vehicle to and from the place for the warranty repairs. That's one argument that I used.

THANKS for your input
Look to be honest from what they have told me. They have replaced everything to do with the Left side DPF. From wiring to sensors including new DPF and ECU.. We got the car back again last Friday. Supposedly all fixed ( again).
My wife drove the car through to Perth for Chemotherapy and on her way home the car faulted again and went into restricted driving mode again. They are now saying there is some sort of sensors in the air filter that doesn't show a code when it's faulty. So they now think it's that and have the part ordered.🙄
