$6,500.00

Check price

Madison, Wisconsin

Considering selling my 2014 Touareg TDI. I bought it in 2018 with just under 80,000 miles and drove it maintenance-free for a solid 6 years. Just oil changes, brakes, and a set of tires which are still in great shape. A year ago it started leaking oil, and I ended up putting almost $5,000 into it to replace various gaskets and seals, plus they replaced the EGR cooler while they had it taken apart. Current mileage is around 121,000. Recently I spent another $900 for service; Oil change, transmission fluid, brake fluid, air filter, etc. They did a full inspection and said everything is in great shape.

Just the other day the check engine light came on. The light is solid. The car runs and drives normally. Code p20ee00 and p24ae00

I have 2 other cars and although I love this Touareg, I don't really need it. I don't have the time, space, or expertise to do the work myself. I'm having trouble finding a shop in the area that will work on it for a reasonable price: I have quotes for $7700 for an aftermarket solution, and $5500 for a stock solution. So I thought I'd see if I can find somebody that knows these vehicles and wants a good deal on what might be a relatively simple project.

Yeah I though so too. Not a ton of places around Madison work on these engines. There's another TDI shop in the area but he only works on the 4 cylinder motors. And I'm not sure how to ask around for this type of work since it's a pretty big liability for shops. What's a reasonable price range for a delete in 2025? Thanks for any info.

A full DPF isn't a "parts failure" and there is no reason to expect other things to fail. However, 80k miles is really low for a DPF to be full, a VCDS scan would be in order to see if maybe it's actually just a bad sensor or something.

I haven't done it yet, but priced out cleaning the DPF on mine as it needs it soon- only $250 to have it professionally cleaned. Best case scenario you just unbolt it, bring it in, and get it cleaned, and reinstall- and good for another decade or so.

It has 120k miles now. I think I'll bite the bullet and have a VW dealer diagnose it for $200 as a second opinion. The crew at this shop I've used post warranty seem nice enough. The owner has a deleted diesel X5 he was raving about. But I suppose they could be taking me for a ride.

I think this place knows what they’re looking at. As far as I can tell they’re the only place around Madison that works on the 3.0L. Every other TDI shop I can find doesn’t touch the Touaregs.
OK.

Someone local go beat the OP down on this alleged heap and then post back if you don't know what to do to fix it.
The OP clearly doesn't want "help", so I'm not going to waste my time beating someone into accepting help.

I think this place knows what they’re looking at. As far as I can tell they’re the only place around Madison that works on the 3.0L. Every other TDI shop I can find doesn’t touch the Touaregs. So this shop is only competing against the VW dealership on price. The $7700 quote is $3000 labor, $1000 tune. $2700 is parts, shipping, tax.

Which is why it probably makes more sense to sell it to someone that either can do their own work on it moving forward, or at least that lives near a shop or two with better pricing.

I'm very appreciative of the input and information. I know the car isn't a heap. It's a great car for the right person. I'm updating the thread with the specific codes so that a potential buyer has all the information.

Since I don't have the space or knowledge to fix it, I posted it here hoping to find someone in central Wisconsin that wants a good deal on it.

Strongly disagree with all of the above.
IF you appreciated the input, you'd listen when this community tells you that the quote is absurd, and that the codes do not point to a failed DPF or it needed to be unnecessarily deleted.
IF you also listened or had internet, you could do some basic searches to see that a delete will not cost anywhere near that.

Let me know if you need to borrow my calculator to check the math out.

Lets break this down for a minute.
1. You're not getting 10k for this Touareg, you're maybe getting 5,500-6,500 if someone knows what they're buying.
2. You're getting ripped off at your repair shop, everyone is saying it. Have you even tried to call around? Tried to look on FB for another shop?
3. You claim you love the car and would rather not see it go, so why don't you take everyone's advice here and find a shop that can do it cheaper?

All the people that have commented here gain NOTHING from you keeping this or selling this. We're enthusiasts telling you the right way to fix this.

I didn't mean to defend the quote, I also think it's way too high. I was just passing along the breakdown of the quote - $3000 labor in particular. I don't have any leads on another shop that will do the work. There are a handful of TDI shops in the Madison area. Jason's Turbo Diesel Repair in particular is highly rated. I called him first, he said he doesn't work on Touaregs. I have called everywhere I can find, the last one I talked to said as far as he knows, only Zimbrick VW (dealership) will work on them. I just talked to another shop that said they only work with stock parts, and he expects it would be around $5500.

I didn't mean to offend with an asking price of $10k. It was just a starting point since there aren't a ton of comparable vehicles out there. A stock Touareg of similar mileage and condition without a check engine light might go for $12-13k? (A 2012 Sport with 94k miles sold for $10,250 recently, and a 2014 Lux with 77k went for $18,500 recently) Given that the consensus on here is that it might be an easy fix, then yeah $5,500-6,500 would be a great deal for somebody that knows how to do the work, or knows somebody that will do the work for a fair price. If somebody in Wisconsin or Northern Illinois wants to message me with a shop they know can help me out, great.

This is a classified section. I'm not trying to repair it myself. I do love the car, but I don't need it. I have 2 other cars. I either need to find another shop that will do the work for $3500 or less, and so far I have not found that, not for lack of trying... or I need to sell the car.
