NYC can mean a lot of things. If the OP is confined to the five boroughs, I might advise a gas model over diesel, hence the comment of it being an ideal road car, strectching its legs, etc. It's called metaphor.

Many short trips on a diesel are probably less than ideal. It will work fine, just not ideal. From a maintenance perspective, VW services them like any other. Pick a good dealer.

I travel to NYC, Boston, Chicago, and Toronto regularly. In a white one, so wave.

White Touaregs are faster, too.
