Greetings!
My name is Nick and I wanted to introduce myself. I've had an account for a little while and have been lurking for a while. But now I need some advice, please!
Some background on me: I jumped into the German car scene/nightmare back in 2005 when I purchased a mkiv 1.8t jetta. Kept that mostly stock aside from a cup kit until I bought a b5 s4. and then another b5 s4. And then probably 10 more. I owned them from stock, stage 1, stage 2, stage 3, fully built engine with single turbo and nearly 700whp. 4 toy cars at a time. Had lots of fun with them. But now, I'm a little "more mature" and I promised my wife that I would reduce the amount of toys, so as of 2 weeks ago, I am down to 1 b5 s4... in pieces... prepping for another single turbo build. Our other cars are a beat up old truck and a stupid prius.
So, December of 2018, I convinced my wife that we no longer needed our big turbo mkV jetta tdi with stage 2 cam and that we NEED a Touareg TDI. And we needed it in white with the dark brown interior. So, we picked up our 1 owner 2013 TDI with 83k miles from Austin, TX and they delivered it to us in Houston. Now has 113k miles. We bought it specifically with some dents and scratched because we now live on some land with animals and they don't care about paint. But the scratches and dents aren't very bad at all. We love the car. It is so practical, comfortable, and relatively fun, for being a 5000 lb vehicle. It has done very well doing some mild off-roading with 5 people in that car. Feels great cruising at 95-100 on the highway. Easy to work on so far and the only "major issues" have been a couple of interior switches (until now). Fixed those things and then picked up a malone stage 2 tune in November when it was on sale with the flashloader.
On to the problems.
So, I uploaded the tune... and... I was so disappointed. I felt no difference and my butt dyno is very well tuned. So, I decided to drive it for a couple of hundred miles and then do a 0-60 test... Launched at 2k rpm and it came in around 11 seconds... yes 11 seconds. Looked up the stock and it was 6.9 seconds. Something is terribly wrong and Malone is offering no support.
My first thought was boost leak, but I smoke tested and found no leaks. I drained the intercoolers. They had a small amount of oil in them. No change. Just did the intake tract/swirl flap carbon cleaning (made a video of it and debating on posting it). No change. No engine codes.
Feels like it has more torque at partial throttle (shifting around 3500rpm than it does at full throttle. I also get a chirp when letting off of the gas after a hard pull that i just can't find. I change the oil every 5k miles, fuel filter every 20k miles, and trans fluid every 40k miles
I also get 20mpg regularly in city driving during the summer. Summer hwy driving I get 24mpg at 95-100mph, 25mpg at 85mph, and 28.5mpg at 75-78mph tested and hand calculated. I know I drive a little faster than most probably do, but I'm seeing guys getting 30+mpg, is that at like 60mph? There's no way I could drive that slow. No patience for that.
So, any suggestions on what to look for or check or delete or modify? What other info is needed to help diagnose?
Also, the intercooler system seems really complicated. Is there a front mount or less complicated setup available? Its a single turbo. Why does it 50 feet of piping?
Thank you in advance for any suggestions.
