I am working through the features on my new Treg, and have a question on wether or not the remote can operate the windows (long press lock/unlock to open or close windows). The manual says this convenience feature is enabled through Car - Settings, but I don't see those options in my system. Is this only available on the keyless entry system, or am I missing the setting somewhere?

Thanks for the link to that thread, but I'm not comfortable diddling around with my car's computer just a week after I bought it. If VW put it in the owner's manual, it should be an available option in the factory settings. Are you aware of any reason it wouldn't be turned on, in spite of VW documenting it in the manual?

There are many options that VW turns off for the North American cars. I could not tell you the reasons.
I found a VW performance shop and brought them all of the documentation on the changes I wanted. The guy new his way around the vag com system. Quite painless, cost me 75 bucks for an hour of his time. Now I have video in motion, remote window operation, gear number next to D or S and one other that i cant remember.
I was nervous about messing with my new car as well. I was no big deal in the end. Just need to find a competent individual.

Have you had your Treg back in for service/maintenance at your dealer since then? I'm interested to hear if you've had any issues with the VAGCOM mods affecting your warranty, which is what I'm really scared of. A quick goog search suggests that some dealers' service departments may flag you as having a chipped car (even though its not).
I might go for the mods if I can be confident that it wont impact my warranty, but I think I'd have to hear that from my dealer and VW to be 100%.

I'm not sure how VW handles the mods.
I know when I owned my Dodge Ram 3500 Diesel, guys would add the mini computers and change the EGR stuff and do deletes trying to get every ounce of HP of the truck causing all kinds of havoc and issues.
Some dealers looked the other way and some flagged the vehicle for warranty issues. I don't think some people are aware of the fall out when you mess with this stuff it has serious repercussions! Some guys that were hit upside the head with a two by four were in total disbelief when the dealer turned down the warranty work because of the mods. Then walked away pissing and moaning because the work was turned down. What you do after the warranty period is your liability but don’t expect the dealer to fix your mess!

I'm pretty annoyed bcus I asked my dealer about the window feature, but they knew nothing of it, so I tried VW cust care. VW told me they can't advise me on what features my car should have and that I should ask the dealer. Great cust svc on a $50k vehicle...

I've found that the service directors and parts guys no very little about what they are working with. Most of them flip flop all over the place for a penny more an hour. I think the only way they know anything is if they came up through the ranks on that brand other than that the customer is the one with the knowledge. Which most of those tid bits can be found on boards like this.
Getting back to my 2011 Dodge Ram 3500. I had mine 100% OEM with no mods. Some guys would revert the vehicle back to its stock state when taking them in for warranty work. Others felt the service bay up for a reading on mods and if questionable would take action from that point on. You would be amazed at what people do and expect the mod to pass the mustard. I can honestly say some of the stuff I saw looked like ******* artwork that you would find in a Wal-Mart parking lot and laugh you’re a$$ off at! I'm not kidding either! And these were 60K trucks too! They always gave me total crap as I kept mine stock. I never had any issues getting work done.
I'm sure you're probably thinking from a Dodge Ram 3500 to a VW Touareg what a drastic change! The VW is actually my wife's vehicle. I no longer have the truck as it was a total nightmare to own due to the truck tags and GVWR it came in at living within an association. I used the truck to haul my skis and bikes with. I had a rice burner for my daily driver. Both the truck and the rice burner were non-problematic vehicles to own except the weight issue of the truck other than that I got many happy miles from both. I'm now driving an Infiniti which does not tow. That's why we bought the VW for its towing capacity and my saga with the Honda that got totaled into a two month ownership. I have to admit that driving the Infiniti is a total experience to own one. You get the vehicle back washed, vacuumed, and cleaned out for any service or warranty issue. The only time I’ve had the Infiniti in the shop for was an issue with SiriusXM in which the dopes got the VIN number hosed up on the SiriusXM end. Infiniti took care of that without any circus maneuvers.
My VW has been in the shop twice now and they still have it. The CEL keeps coming on and they are throwing parts at it. I suspect it’s all about the AdBlue issues. They deny any of that but what’s replaced so far says AdBlue all over it. We are only 2 weeks into ownership or 1K. One more strike and its lemon aid time! I do have to admit they have been pretty diligent about keeping us happy, but that can only go so far before it wears thin for both parties.
I’d keep the vehicle in its OEM state and after the warranty runs out make your changes or mods then.
