a few weeks back, my check engine light came on. After scanning, the only code was P025A - “Fuel Pump Control Module Circuit/Open". This code stayed on for a day or two and then went away. A few days later, it came back and then went away - this cycle continued for a week or so and then it went away and didn't come back on....until yesterday.
While out around town, I parked the car somewhere and it began to rev on its own while parked (from about 800-900RPM to 1600-2000RPM). At first, no engine light was on but after driving home, that came on. The engine revving only occurs while idling (either in Park or Neutral), if I put it in gear, it does not act like it has any problems. It has no issues starting and does not run rough, just revs up and down. This has happened before and it was the PCV valve so I thought that could be the case again but there is no air coming out of the pinhole on the top of the PCV valve so maybe there is a vacuum leak somewhere else?
Now I have 4 codes that have come up:
P025A - "Fuel Pump Control Module Circuit/Open"
P0507 - "Idle Control System RPM Higher Than Expected"
P2189 - "System Too Lean At Idle Bank 2"
P2187 - "System Too Lean At Idle Bank 1"
The car is also leaking oil and has been for 6 months or so, however it has always been just a little - I would need to add a quart of oil maybe once every other month. Now though, there is visibly more oil and it is getting on the belt and getting sprayed around. I believe the oil is leaking from a seal behind the crankshaft pully. And now when the car is running and I put my hand down there, I can feel air blowing from somewhere...
So this all leads me to several questions that hopefully somebody can help me with...
1. Where is the fuel pump control module on a 2011 VW Touareg VR6 FSI? Under the back seat in one of those access holes?
2. What are the chances the fuel pump module is causing the lean conditions? I find it odd that i have an issue with my fuel pump and also something else going on like a vacuum leak that is causing the lean condition, however i do feel the air when i stick my hand down there and can hear a hissing noise.
3. If the oil is leaking from a broken seal behind the crankshaft, could this also be the source of the vacuum leak? Maybe it has gotten worse and now its to the point where it is causing more of an issue than just oil leaking?
4. What would you try and fix first? the Fuel Control Module or the Vacuum leak? I am not sure how to tell if one is causing the other or if both are occurring simultaneously but I would like to avoid fixing something that doesn't need it if possible.
5. Are there any resources for fixing a leak from behind the crankshaft? I assume you have to take the radiator off to gain access and see what you're doing? Any good videos that walk through this?
6. Where would you start to troubleshoot this and figure out what needs to be done?
