Does anyone out there have the traffic subscription from Sirius?

We're still in our "complimentary" period, and it sort of "works", but it only shows traffic reports for places that are quite a ways from us, and not our local traffic. So, I'm thinking that it doesn't work with the complimentary subscription, or maybe it does, and it doesn't get any better than it is.

I'd be interested in how it works for people that actually have the subscription...

Hi,

When I was driving my treg during the complimentary period the traffic was giving reports all around my local highways with detours and construction. There were times I had nothing in my area at all, maybe 60 miles away was the closest. I feel it worked very accurately. I just did a 10 hour drive two weeks ago and it was spot on with construction that I was approaching. So far I feel it has worked perfectly for my area. I just recently renewed for a year. Very satisfied so far.
Make sure on your screen that you scroll up on the arrows on the right. There has been times my traffic was at the bottom of the screen and not at the top. If this happens, you would have traffic reports over 100 miles away.

Maybe you're lucky with no construction in the area.

I averaged 30.7 MPG on my 10 hour drive. For about 3 hours, I was getting 32.7. Great set of wheels!!

Good Luck ;)

Hummm... Neither one of those is the case at all. We've scrolled up and down the listing, and it's never close to us. Interestingly, it's always about 150 miles from where we are, BUT it's not always the same town, but it's always 150 miles or slightly more from us.

The other interesting thing is that we there is full time construction going on around us right now, and it doesn't even show those items as potential snags. Recently, my wife was stopped on the road for about 15 minutes, and it never did show that as a traffic stopage, BUT we have seen traffic stoppages all the time on the traffic report, but again, they are 150 miles or more from us.

That's why I'm perplexed.

There is a map showing coverage on the Sirius traffic site
Sirius Traffic - SiriusXM Radio
but coverage is better than shown. It's really a big city and Interstate service. I renewed just the traffic and let the radio expire since a year of Pandora is about what Sirius charges monthly and I don't have to listen to that damn Richard Blade talk about DJ-ing some party on Long Island.

The re-route function on a trip actually works very well. I've followed their route change three times on trips and was better off than friends that stuck to the Interstate. I don't use traffic much since I live in a small town, but it was cheap enough to re-new.

I never thought to go there and see what they had for a coverage map. DUH!!

Well, the map explains why we are NOT getting anything except 150 miles away. That's because the closest points on the map to us, are all about 150 miles away.

Makes perfect sense now...

I live in the Chicago suburbs and commute towards the cities edge daily. I've found it very nice. Seemed to work will up in the Twin cities and in between while on vacation a couple weeks ago. It convinced me to sign up for the year.

Same here in Vermont. We just don't have local agencies reporting traffic to Sirius.

You might want to consider not renewing the traffic service, but temporarily adding it when you take a trip. I believe there's a fee to remove it, but it's just a few dollars.

...up here in canada, we've been in limbo for ever, we can't even register with sirius US anymore. Sirius keeps saying next month.
FYI, Sirius traffic for Canada works quite well here in Vermont. I'm about 90 miles from Montreal and see all their traffic problems. Hope you get it soon...

I think that I saw on the Sirius website that it's a minimum 1-yr commitment to sign up for traffic. $4/mo...

According to the Sirius web site, traffic needs to be subscribed to for at least one year only if not subscribing to radio services. Once subscribed it can be discontinued at any time...

Sirius Traffic may be ordered with or without an active Sirius Satellite Radio subscription. Sirius Traffic must be ordered for 1 year or longer if ordered without a Sirius Satellite Radio subscription. Additional Fees & Charges: Early cancellation fee may apply.

It appears the fee is $5 to change or remove an item from your Sirius services package...

...you can pay a $5 package change fee and opt for a lower priced package. Just log in to the Online Account Center to make the change.
