Hello,

My 2011 TDI sport has an inoperative driver's door lock button (switch). The power window buttons also are intermittently inoperative, especially when the express down function is used (button pushed all the way down).

The door lock button problem has existed for a while. The indicator light on the button works properly, correctly showing locked status. Most of the time there is a slight sound when the button is operated, as if the button is working but there might not be sufficient contact/connection to actuate the locks. All other lock buttons work on the other three doors.

I've tried many combinations of key in/out, engine on/off, gear selector in park/neutral/drive, etc. Nothing changes the problem.

Has anyone had door lock or window button problems? Because the indicator light is working, it seems like a software thing to me. Any input is appreciated.

I have a drivers door window button issue on my 2012. I noticed it a few weeks ago. The button works for manual up and down, however auto up is not working. I felt something possibly move inside the button. Then it got intermittent working auto up. Now it's not auto up anymore. The drivers door front passenger window switch is now having an auto down issue. The passenger side works fine. So I have auto issues with both the front driver and passenger window switches in the driver door. Anybody know how to get replacement switches for the driver door? Anybody know a dealer cost in time and materials for this button replacements? I'm now 3 months over warranty.

This, Hold the button up for 15 seconds then hold the button down all the way, it sets the limits for the up and down, my guess is it was jammed at one point.

For the OP, it's possible you have a short in the door cable where it exits the door and loops into the pillar, try operating the button when you open and close the door slowly/faster and see if there is any pattern to it. You might need a new wiring harness, or as the previous poster mentioned it's possible moisture got into the switch.

Mine has the same issue with the door lock, however, mine is not totally inoperative. Mine just has a mind of it's own. Sometimes the switch works, and sometimes it doesn't. Mine seems more like an actual switch issue, and not a software issue...

Mine seems mechanical. I tried resetting the limits holding it up and down for 15 seconds. My front passenger switch occasionally works auto down but is intermittent. The driver side used to be intermittent auto up but has stopped working auto up altogether. As said when it started I felt something in the switch mechanism like a small piece of plastic breaking off/ floating inside the switch when this started. I'm just wondering if the problem becomes more severe and manual up stops working I'll be in trouble and want to resolve it if indeed its a switch going.
