I ran a VCDS scan and it found5 engine fault code. Two regarding fuel pump which causes me to worry a bit. Other were regarding misfires which am not sure are related. ANy suggestions??

If you clear the faults do any of them show back up?

I know my FSI will show random misfires at startup while looking at live data. I've changed the spark plugs/coil packs and use top tier gas (even though it's 10% Ethanol...gripes). Still does it occasionally (mainly during warmer temps.) but only at startup. When it does the vehicle seems to exhibit a bit of a shake which goes away after 10-15 seconds and then runs smooth and gets decent gas mileage.

I thought I read somewhere that the FSI models have a tendency to do this. I've just learned to ignore it as it doesn't always shake.

Thank for response. Ive changed spark plugs and I’m I know I’m due for new coil packs. I have always noticed the rough idle/misfire during first minute or so after a cold start since I purchased with 37k. So I cleared the codes and drove it for about 9 miles or so this morning after a cold start. Did a rescan and no engine codes. I’ll rescan after a week or so see what happens.

Hi,

I have a 2011 Touareg 3.6 VR6 and experiencing multiple cylinder misfires. I have changed the plugs and coils, but still having issues intermittently. Some days not at all, then other days it's rough.

Have you had any luck figuring your issue out?

So what did u end up finding out about the fuel pump control module cause spark plugs and coils don’t cause that code

I’m getting the same code about the fuel pump control module and can’t really find anything about it I’ve found them for sale but not where it’s located and for some reason all of the vw dealers website say it’s no longer available??? Not sure why cause it’s not like my touareg is 50 yeas old

the in-tank one or the high pressure one ? and did you replace the module ( 7p0 906 093 b) ?
i have this code popping out once in a while on mornings on startups. i also have the casual shakey vibrations until the rpm drops to operating rpm.

High pressure. No I didn't replace the module as this was not mentioned by my mechanic. I have always (since 37K miles) experienced slight shaking after a cold start up but goes away pretty quick after engine warms.

I also did end up changing the coil packs a while back after I changed the plugs.

newer VR6 coil packs are not known for failure on a mileage basis so replacing them without diagnosis is wasting money.
If your fuel pump control module is showing an internal fault and it comes back within a week of it being cleared it should be replaced. The module should be on top of the primary electric fuel transfer pump. 7P0906093B is the latest and not discontinued part number with a list price of $226.67.

These engines like all VW FSI engines can have valve timing issues from using improper oil or running super long intervals of 10K miles on regular 502.00 oil. 10K miles is the max you can run on 502.00 and that does not account for severe service which many people still achieve. If you are running 502.00 spec oil or non spec oil at 10K intervals I would strongly suggest adding a quart of Gunk motor flush 5 minutes before changing your oil everytime. If you are running 505.01 spec or 504.00 spec oil you are better off as 505.01 can probably stretch to 15K and 504.00 can probably stretch a little more. These oils can last up to 30K in diesel vehicles but fuel vapor loading is not the main issue on those cars. I believe 502.00 oils should be changed at 5K intervals under standard industry severe service descriptions and 10K under normal service descriptions. Chain rattle at startup while claimed normal by VW should be much less prevelant than I have heard on many cars. My beliefe is 10K intervals and crappy oil lead to chain wear and stretch and most of the wear occurs while it's making all that noise or in the last 2K of VW's recommended 10K interval. My 3.6 BLV VR6 sounds better on startup with 220000 miles than newer ones of the same age with only 80000 on the clock. I believe it is simply because I'm anal about maintenance and oil selection as well as having far fewer cold starts than the cars with lower miles that get driven without much of a chance to even warm up and burn off fuel vapor from starting. My car has only misfired on startup twice and it was a computer glitch and the misfire did not go away until I restarted the car. I've never changed my coils and I change the plugs with VW plugs at 60000 intervals.

On my '11 FSI I've noticed that since switching to Liquid Moly Molygen that I have no noises at startup, and so far at over 3k since I put it in for the oil/filter change my oil level hasn't dropped. No shaking at startup either. I also change my oil every 5k. I already have more Molygen on hand for my next oil/filter change.
