2011-2012: Can I run 17" winter wheels?

As its snowing in MD, I'm realizing I want a set of winter tires/wheels. I have the 19's and it looks like I could definitely go down to an 18" wheel, but not likely a 17.

Any advice is appreciated.

Your turbo-diesel may have bigger brake rotors or calipers that would prohibit installaion of a 17" -- you could always have a dealer try to fit one on before you buy.

There are very few 110H XL rated winter tires, unless you mount them on an 18" wheel.

See

Dunlop Grandtrek WT M3

for specs on Dunlop's Grandtrek Wt M3. I am leaning toward this winter tire for my 17" wheels (I have a gas V6), and they are more narrow, but the tires above look pretty nice. It describes the 18" tire, but only lists the 19" on Tirerack.

I would bet the calipers are no bigger then the ones on my '10. It will fit 17", they just don't sell them with them anymore because everyone wants larger wheels now. My '10 was delivered to the US with 19" and had them dealer swapped for 17" before it was delivered to me. The only Treg in NA that had larger calipers is the now defunct V10. You should be fine.

What about these? 17" Porsche Wheels

This guy says they fit 2011 Touareg, but ebay is full of lies. A set of these painted black would make for a pretty nice winter ride. Have to buy TPMS though.
they will fit, I have 2 sets of OEM 17's one painted flat black with camo spray paint and the original silver...........setting up one for mud tires and then the others for AT/Winter tires..........why bc Im bored :).

Austin is not much for snow, rain, or ice.......but the boy scout in me wants to do it anyway...

These wheels are all 5/130 mm on the wheels

I ordered a set with 18" which I didnt get yet, but this morning no problem in 6" heavy icy snow going up my steep driveway in off road mode with factory 19" good year eagle. No slipping, excellent traction. Very surprised.
