A bit if good news! The extended warranty company examined our service record in great detail and found we did too many oil changes. Just kidding. The dealer has done all the repairs and maintenance over the past several years. A perfect maintenance record is beginning to pay off. So we have cleared this hurdle. We find out more detail later next week. This has been going on for several weeks.

Any updates? Are they going to cover it? Even if they do, it would be a great thing to report this to VWoA and have the dealer report it to make sure VW is aware if this issue so an extended warranty could hopefully be implemented to help others and possibly get you a full or partial refund on this repair. I have notified VWoA of my instance and told them I know of a 3.0 TDI in a Denver, CO. area at a VW dealer that is having the same problem/repair. They replied with adding this to my record for research.

First off, I want thank Chris for posting the video and making everyone aware of this issue. His video was very helpful in knowing the problem. I have appreciated our conversations all about this. Our tensioner broke on a Sunday morning. I went out to start it and it made that loud clanking sound. I immediately turning it off and rolled out of the garage and on to the driveway for a tow truck the next day. This turned out to be really important. The dealer's tech was concerned the values could have been damaged.

After nearly two months we got our Touareg back from the dealer tonight! The repair was a monumental project to complete. They had the engine and transmission out of the vehicle to make the repair. Tonight, I made a 60 mile trip for a soda. In the end, it is running much smoother and quieter than before. It seems to be much more responsive at the throttle as well. Our first impressions are impressive and my hats off the tech for a great job. Mega kudos!

Our extended warranty company, covered the expense. They required the vehicle to be completely disassembled, then they send out an inspector to review all the broken parts. I understand this can be a common practice in the warranty business. They were respectful to shop crew. They spent days reviewing my maintenance record which is current and up-to-date. I will post some pictures of the tensioner from my phone shortly. We missed out on two camping vacations with friends but we are glad to be back on the road!

That is awesome. I am glad you were able to get it fixed and covered under your extended warranty. If you could give VWoA a call and report the problem you had as it may help other people in the future.
