Just dropped a deposit on a 2009 R50, trading in my 2009 V6 TDI, which I love
any know issues with the V10, seems strange it did not come with SAT Nav Colour Screen, I thought this was standard on R50?
Cheers

welcome Mark.

Why trade up to the R50? Whereabouts are you? The RNS510 map screen is colour. If you're referring to the Multi-function display between the tach and the speedometer, I'm thinking there's been a problem in the past and a non-colour MFD has been installed.

Really need more detailed information in respect to what you are referring to.

Don't be offended....but I'm surprised you've put the deposit down before coming here to ask about known issues. Cart. before. the. horse?

Hi Steve
Thanks for the quick response. I am talking about

where the SatNav screen should normally be,
yes a bit quick to move I grant you

Unless I am mistaken...someone has pulled the RNS510 out, and replaced it with the RCD510 (no nav/hdd etc). Ah...this is a less than OEM built R50.
ok..my apologies...the RNS510 with RVC was a $6k+ upgrade option.

Easy enough (and significantly cheaper) to upgrade once the vehicle has been purchased.

Where are you located? I'd be getting an independent Volkswagen Service Technician to inspect this vehicle before putting the balance of you purchase price on the table.

Thanks Steve, nice to know someone who knows this stuff inside out. I am in Vermont in Melbourne and would like an independent look at it, do you know of anyone?

should have noted I was attracted to the car as it only has 59k on the clock

There is a thread in the Australia /New Zealand section......maybe a page or 2 back. It details highly recommended technicians etc Australia wide.

As Steve said, the sat nav / rev. camera is an optional extra as was the electric tailgate and sun roof. Other than colour I'm pretty sure they were the only choices available as extras/options. There are a few of us on this forum (1 recently sold his) so stay in touch.

Hi Mark, Wondering if you still have your R50 - I bought one in Feb this year and live in Wonga Park - not that far from Vermont. Perhaps we can compare notes?? Regards, Dan Nebauer

Hi Dan, I've just purchased an R50 also, should be on it's way down from Queensland tomorrow. I'm over in Hurstbridge, would be keen to compare notes when she arrives!

Hi Ben,

Are you new to VW? I am. When will your car arrive down here? Tell me more about it - year, condition, how many k's etc. And if you don't mind telling me (perhaps by phone) how much it set you back?

Have you thought about an extended warranty for the car? It as recommended to me by another R50 owner in WA - I took it up and glad that I did - my thermostat failed after about four/five months - the replacement cost was over $1130 - covered by the warranty. Will provide details if interested.

Cheers, Dan

So the story goes;

Definitely new to the V10 but we've had a late model Tiguan that has served us well so far, in addition to the out laws having a V6 Touareg and an Amarok, both have been reliable insofar as being driveable, the battery in their Touareg has been on the fritz.

She should be arriving next week all being equal, she's an MY09 in Black (God give me strength in keeping her clean!), 160,xxx on the clock, single owner and full books. Looks to be in pretty sharp nick although they all do through a lens... I'll fill you in on price when we grab a coffee. Can't wait to meet her!

If you could please share the info on your extended warranty that would be great, as I've been looking into it.

Cheers, Ben

Talk to Steve Groci at J&F Motors in Richmond.
I have taken my R50 there a couple of times, Steve is an ex V10 owner and knows these things well.
The only reason I don't take it there all the time is I don't live close to Melbourne.
If you go ahead and buy it, welcome to the club.
Although you've bought this car do take the time to read this thread as there's lots of useful info on common issues and fixes:

And this is the best diagnostic tool:
