The driver side exhaust tip on my 2008 V8 recently started to "sag".
Upon closer inspection, it wasn't a "sag"; the exhaust tip is a separate bolt-on component from the muffler. The ring clamp that attaches the tip to the muffler had cracked. Kind of amazed actually.
My initial thought was that I could just go out and get a replacement clamp. Easy, right?? WRONG :frown2:
Every online search told me I needed to replace the ENTIRE EXHAUST TIP. Part #7L6253681L. The cheapest place I found it online was ECS Tuning for $219.94 (as of the date of this post). I went to the dealership to see if they actually could get just the clamp for me. The parts guy's answer was "Nope, gotta buy the entire thing. There's no way you'll find a clamp because this is a highly specialized German made VW Part. Don't even bother looking." I told him he was nuts, there's always a part. This is just a stupid simple C clamp. I kept searching and thought I'd struck gold when I found that Magnaflow actually makes and sells a clamp that looks similar.
Their model is MagnaFlow Performance Exhaust Sleeve - Clamp 10163 and runs for around $85 on a good day. STILL an absurd price....but at LEAST I was closer....
The pipe diameter is just under 3" O.D. It's probably measured in mm....but i'm in the USA and good luck searching for parts like this in mm's..... So...finally I REALLY struck gold with good old Ebay. Search this term "2.75" 2 3/4" Genuine Torca AccuSeal Stainless Steel Band Exhaust Clamp AS275SS" and you should find the necessary part at a price point much much much lower than $85.
Now for pics:
Moral of the story....keep looking, never believe the dealer or what you read on the sites that tell you there's only ONE part that works.
*sorry, had to edit...couldn't get the inline pics to work with google photos*
