I'm not sure where these manifolds tend to seize up (I know the non-fsi v8s had issues), but I don't see why you can't clean it. The flaps are easily accessible with the manifold removed, and you can even split the manifold right open if needed.
If its the actuator itself, they're mounted on the front and are easily accessible.
