Hi All,

Should be taking delivery of a used 2008 V6 TDI on Saturday. The car is pretty much stock (I believe it has a six stacker and thats about it) and I've been scouring through the forums and the list of things I want to do has already grown beyond the budget :(

Planning on changing the oil first thing, dealer claims to have done a service, but want to do it for my peace of mind. Just wondering what else people would recommend doing as a matter of priority?

Also any recommendations for next mod's welcomed, currently on the wish list:

- Tow bar
- New Tyres, not sure if to hunt for the wider rims/
- RNS510 head unit - Would like to change over the instrument cluster too but hard to find atm.
- Roof rails with a LED bar
- Winch

Cheers,
Tom

Don't forget the drive shaft bearing housing, I have a Treg the same age as yours and mine just failed at 140000 kms. I incorrectly assumed it would have been done already, and as luck would have it it failed just before I planned to replace it. So I had the pleasure of a roadside swap out with all the wrong tools....

If you use google, you can search this site very thoroughly.

Site:clubtouareg.com drive shaft fail

Typing the above into Google should yield hours of reading on the subject

I used the "viagra fix" as a replacement, probably the quickest and easiest swap as you don't have to take the drive shaft out.

Thanks for the heads up and site searching hints :) I did ask about the drive shaft bearing after reading this post: Buying a used Touareg. What to look for. - myTreg forums and the dealer advised that it was changed recently.

When I test drove it, there was no vibration coming from the centre console. Once I've got it, I'll have a look underneath at the boot and see if there is much play.

Change your front and rear differential oils, transfer box oil [buy the right stuff in the 850ml bottle from your VW dealer] and ATF fluid.

How to do it is all on here.

Thanks for the tips guys, can either of you (or anyone else) able to advise a good place to get filters, gaskets and fluids in Sydney. I would guess that VW will be extremely expensive (Presume that I will need to get some stuff directly from them like the transfer oil) and Repco/Supercheap/Autobarn won't stock most things?
