I have a 2007 with the v6 and about 46000 miles. A year ago my engine light came on and reduced power on an annual drive down the Alaska highway and it was diagnosed as defective sensors and they were replaced.
Last month I started the annual drive and within 200 miles I had all the same symptoms so I headed home and took a different car. Now I believe they are replacing the cam shaft, gears, chain and I am not certain what else. The dealer apparently suggested a new engine to VW but they would not do that much.The car has been at the dealer since the 25th of last month.
I am concerned because this is the second time with this problem and the warranty runs out in about 4000 miles. I also don't like to experience car failure on this highway where for the most part there is no cell phone service and even 911 does not work.
My questions are:Hhave others had this problem. My dealer has seen one other and a dealer in Canada had seen two similar problems regarding the sensor.
Also does anyone know if VW will extend the warranty for this type of problem since it is just now being fixed, and I have no way to know if they really got it right this time. Does anyone know who to contact to get the warranty extended.
Also even if they do extend the warranty I am still concerned about getting stranded on one of these annual trips. Any informtation on how prevalent this problem is and on reliabilty would be appreciated. I relly enjoy this car and would prefer to keep it, but I need to know it is going to run or I need to change to something else.
