have a new (to me) 2006 Touareg TDI (v10 but not sure that makes a difference). A few days ago the drivers side low beam stopped working and gave me the "check headlights" message on the screen.

Took me a bit to figure out how to remove the headlight assembly but I did so, realized I had HID headlights and ordered a replacement Philips HID bulb assembly (D1S). Got the bulb today and installed it, plugged everything back in and presto.. wait.. still no light.

removed the assembly again and cleaned the connections with good electrical cleaning spray. plugged everything back in. no light. removed assembly again and also removed the metal plate thing (countour unit control unit?) and cleaned the connections on that and reinstalled everything. still no light.

I'll swap bulbs this afternoon with the passenger side and see if that works (could be two bad bulbs but I find that hard to believe).

The other lights (marker lights, high beams, etc) all work fine.

The "bad" bulb looked fine to me, not black or discolored like I would have expected with halogen or other bulbs...

Any suggestions on anything else to check?

hard to check voltage on the pins on anything with it all plugged in, but I suppose I could leave the headlight assembly disconnected and then check the pins but not sure which ones to check...
