Hello, I didnt find any thread with this problem.
I have a 2005 Touareg 2.5 R5 TDI
The problem is the numbers in the cluster dont light up anymore, but everything else works fine.
I'm hoping that i wont have to replace a complete instrument.

I will try replacing both of the transformers and see if that does the trick.
My dad said that he could smell something burning for a week straight but now this died.

Get the cluster out and inspect it. The side effect now is that the cluster is always on when key is in ignition. Night and day. I haven’t had the chance to check if there is a light sensor somewhere which was stuck in the dark forever when I reinstalled the cluster. Will look into later. Just remember that mileage is recorded in the cluster only so if you get another cluster you will have to reprogram it to put your mileage. And one last thing I cluster came with different motherboards for different treg year/model versions so you might end up with an updated board without the same transformers i have. The only way to find out is to open that thing.

hi i have same model and year,did you install cluster from 2009-2010 model becouse of bigger screen.Did you had problem syncing between these two? Thanks
