HI all,

Recently I had to replace failed center bearing. To make story short, I had worked on the driveshaft for 4 months. Car was on jacks the whole time. I made a mistake taking it all apart and trying an amateurs approach at fixing the shaft. Anyway, finally decided to get refurbished shaft from Vertex [ I highly recommend them]. Got it, installed it in 15 minutes, car runs fine. I realized I have wasted months when instead I could have bought the piece right away.

Anyway... Now check engine light came on, did diagnostic- turns out code P0430:

Here's what it says:
However, now I have a check engine light on, code P0430:

Possible problem:
Catalyst system efficiency below treshhold bank 2,
faulty catalitic converter,

probable causes:
Rich air/fuel ratio,
Air leak near rear HO2S(heated oxygen sensor)
Faulty fuel control HO2S(heated oxygen sensor)Bank 2

The guys at autostore told me to disconnect the battery and reconnect it, it " might reset the fatory settings".

Is this true? Again, there is no noise or vibrations coming from engine. I did hear some whistling when I started driving and the engine was cold. But once it warmed up, that was gone too.

Anyone had an issue like this?

[Oh and I cant open the rear door outside, I have to push the trunk door button located on the front driver door. Must be something else.

Never mind. I have done some research online. The check cngine light is off now.
I have followed some suggestions from another forum members.

Here's what I did:

Disconnected the battery [negative terminal] underneath the front driver's seat for 10 minutes. That did the trick. NO MORE LIGHTS ON!

I suggest to whoever gets a check engine light- first go to your local auto store. They might have a scanner- get the code, find out what it is. Then, if you don't want to sell a kidney at dealer to fix it- do some heavy research online. Start with disconnecting the battery. There is a great video on Youtube on how to disconnect the battery. Let the system reset.

If it still comes one, then I'm afraid take it to a mechanic.

By the way- I have lost hope on this forum. Everyone is just viewing the thread but no one is helping or advising.

Dear forumers, mods, strangers: I HAVE MORE THAN CONTRIBUTED MY SHARE OF EXPERIENCE AND ADVICE ON THIS FORUM. BUT I AM AFRAID I HAVE TO GET RID OF MY '05 TOUAREG BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE TIME TO FIX IT AROUND ANYMORE.

SO FAR I'VE REPLACED MY OWN FUEL PUMP, DRIVER SHAFT[NIGHTMARE-GO WITH VERTEX INSTEAD!], I'VE CHANGED MY OWN OIL, BRAKES, TIRES, SPARK PLUGS, AND HAD A RECALL FOR WATER IN THE COILS(COVERED BY VW).

If anyone needs help- hit me up on the private message.

Dragline- thank you for the advice you've given me. For the rest of you- good bye and goodnight.

Hepec- signing out.

I too have an 05 V6 and got a P0430 & P0420 yesterday while just sitting on park with my AC blowing high (it was 96 degrees in Cali, but not sure if it's related at all). Well, anyways, Mine just passed smog somewhat 3 wks ago, which was a good thing so I dont have to smog the T-Reg in two more yrs. Prior to smog, I had the car's ABS module replaced which had to disconnect the battery and my I/M monitors were not ready and took about 2k miles for the catalytic to be in test ready. I do have a OBII scan tool with me, so I cleared the fault codes, hoping it will not come back up again. I just got this truck 2mos ago (no warranty), and not sure if the cat/sensors were ever replaced. I might start by replacing those sensors first, but not prior to hooking it up on Vag (which I still have to learn how to use). If ever, it may take another 2k miles for the error code to come back up again. I did notice I bit slight decrease on fuel consumption, and maybe running rich/lean on cold start. I may check and see If I can do the VAG this week.
