Had my V10 in for service @ 145K. Oil, Oil Filter, Air Filters, Fuel Filters and Cabin Air Filter. When I left the shop, I noticed the engine sounded slightly "different." My exhaust system is slightly modified (no muffler, resonator replaced with X pipe), so it sounds a bit different than unmodified V10. However, it was "more different." Hard to describe the difference, other than to say more "truck like" (i.e., American diesel truck).

Drove a couple of days and received "Exhaust Workshop" in the MFI.

Here's the relevant output of VAGCOM:

Address 01: Engine
1 Fault Found:
16485 - Mass Air Flow Sensor (G70)
P0101 - 000 - Implausible Signal
Freeze Frame:
RPM: 1176 /min
Torque: 0.0 Nm
Speed: 41.6 km/h
Load: 0.0 %
Voltage: 13.30 V
Bin. Bits: 00001000
Mass Air / Rev.: 305.0 mg/str
Mass Air / Rev.: 850.0 mg/str
Readiness: 1 1 0 0 1

According to Ross-Tech Wiki...
16485/P0101/000257 - Ross-Tech Wiki

...there are several possible causes of the P0101 error, including...
Mass Air Flow Sensor (G70) faulty
Air Leak(s) after Mass Air Flow Sensor (G70)
Excessive restrictions in the Intake/Exhaust System
Dirty air filter, clogged snow screen, clogged CAT
Ground Spots corroded or Paint Residue
Wiring and/or Connections from/to Mass Air Flow Sensor (G70) faulty

Given the different mg/str readings in the DTC log, I guessed the tech failed to reconnect the air intake after the filters/MAF.

I guessed right. Hose has a tight snap connector that wasn't properly seated resulting in a small air leak. I re-seated the hose, re-set the DTC with VAGCOM and re-started the engine. I immediately noticed that the sound was back to (modified) normal. No errors have surfaced in the MFI.
