A select few will attempt lowering the Treg - so... I'll share the evolution from stock to H&R and then KW coilovers which is sort of in-progress. Is it worth it? - "Oh Hell Yes! First let me start off saying this trip is essentially building a Cayenne with a few nuances that hopefully will go un-noticed when comparing the Touareg in a road-race scenario. Respectable handling was achieved with the H&R / Bilstein combination lowering the vehicle about 1.75" in the front and 2.5" in the rear - a serious improvement - enough to highlight a weird problem on deviations in road pavement, small quick bumps and rarely one particular combination of low-speed and bump that causes a bang on impact - never really sorted it out and blamed it on the unmatched pair H&R / Bilstein not having compatible valving /spring-rebound at some point. I moved on adding spacers, poly bushings, Cayenne front & rear swaybars and 20" wheels.

Getting even closer to a mean, tank-tough, road cruiser i'll tell you that ... I hang with the best until the other guy's boost kicks in or the true horespower above 5000RPM which leaves the Treg out of the mix especially with the gearing but stay with me ... remove the hesitation with a throttle-amp and drive in Sport-mode and you'll have more than enough power because stopping this beast is an issue also. It's quick, tight, heavy but agile and light with certainty - very predictable and not really sure where she'd break-away in a turn because the need to exceed road adhesion has yet to present itself.

The H&R kit adds "rake" that in my opinion makes an already nose-heavy car too forward-leaning generating a "hop" over speed bumps instead of full-contact. Indeed it's much lower with the coilovers and that jacked-up in the rear look is gone as you can see. So now let's see what the next step brings as the coil-overs have been installed but I hear from the mechanic there's a noise issue and I haven't driven it yet. Checking the forums to see what others have encountered ... see ya in bit.

Very cool. KW are some of the best!

a little update .. what I didn't share was that the KW's came off a wreck that supposedly left the coil-overs in pristine condition - well don't believe everything you hear even if comes from a highly-respected mechanic and so we're replacing the RF coil-over after replacing the LF coil-over 3-weeks ago. You'd think if one shock is bad on a wreck - check the others at least - right? But respectable-mechanic means respectable "last year - not this year" not during COVAD-19 perhaps I don't know but I'm more than a little bit pissed. Waiting for the replacement from Germany ....

So - yeah @volkswagens-for-life I hope end up in agreement with you!

Which Bilstein shocks do you have?

I have Bilstein B6 mated with H&R sport springs on my T3 and the setup is flawless...and I don't have any rake.

Also, tell me more about these coilovers? When last I checked (over a year ago), no major manufacturer offered coilovers for any Touaregs.

I was using the B8 Performance Plus for lowered Touaregs and you're right for average driving the improvement was exceptional except for a couple of rare instances. I'm an aggressive driver and was somewhat disappointed the H&R setup wasn't lower especially in the rear with the wheel/tire combo I wanted to use. Rear wheel well clearance 2.5" and Front clearance 1.5" gives the "rake" and weight transfer on hard deceleration or quick, short bumps.

Check Here: https://www.kwsuspensions.com/products.html - they are the same ones for Audi/Cayenne. My hopes are the spring rates/valving will be far superior to H&R/Bilstein.

I am looking options at the moment for my T3, glad to hear the B6 + H & R is nice.
Wondering how much nicer would be the KW would be, almost twice the price. The main advantage I see would be the height adjustment to make it perfect for the owner need; where the H & R could sit a bit uneven.

There isn't much that can touch KW in the conventional class of suspension. KW is what the big boys use. B6 isn't in the same universe. H&R less so.

interesting thanks a lot for the feedback
I'll review my need and shop accordingly. In my case, this is a grocery getter; there is no point for me to get the most adjustable track/off road suspension available on the market. It won't ever see off road and there is no need to track it LOL
