2.5TDI or 3.0TDI

No one can tell you how reliable any used car will be.

The Touareg can be expensive to fix so don't buy one if you have a tight budget.

If you buy one, get a good warranty.

Petrol consumption and price make diesel the only real option for you.

The 3.0 is a much nicer car all round than the 2.5.

I don't recall a problem with the 3.0 Tdi timing chain? [Only the V8 has a belt and the 2.5 and V10 have timing gears.]

There have been one or two problems with the 3.2 petrol engine timing chain as it is at the rear of the engine block and not easy to access, but I think, from what I have read, often the problem is with the tensioner and not the chain unless it is dealt with too late.
