I've called 3 other VW dealers and I'm amazed at the price differences. Ranging from 250 to 399 for an OEM battery. 220 for an interstate (via dealer). I'll prob go with VW for 250.
That range is indeed interesting

Just buy the OEM battery and be done with it. They're good batteries, and designed exactly for the application, including the required BEM information for the required coding.

If the dealer want's five hours to replace it, find a good independent with VCDS that will source the OEM battery and install and code it. It can quite easily be done in an hour, including vacuuming under the seat, disposing of the old McDonald's fries, and putting the long-lost money in the cupholder to surprise the customer with.

Varta it is. Picked it up this morning. But now I'm looking to install and what I've looked at online with respect to changing is not what I'm seeing here under my driver's seat. What am I missing? Is it just the two triple squares in front on the track?

You will have to remove the rear triple square bolts first.
See this thread for how-to.

Nice! Your interior is so clean! I keep mine as clean as I can but winters just tear the interior and exterior for that matter to pieces. Like salt stains in the carpets!!

No, FLA. Not messing with it. VW battery too.

Took about an hour. I ended up cutting the carpet due to the wires under the seat. I'd rather that clip remain intact. I used Velcro tape under the carpet to snug it back up. $869 from the dealer ....got to be kidding me. Dealers..... My local Porsche dealer wants $480 for an oil change ... It's the easiest thing to do so I do it myself and save over $300 including my Blackstone Labs cost. The hardest part is backing it up on ramps (it's a manual).

I overly maintain my cars so they stay clean. I did find a detail brush under there, so win for me!

I really appreciate the help all!! I'd buy you a beer, but....

Now I just need that new DEF temp sensor and I'm good.

The battery went out on my 2016 T-Reg the other day. I shopped around, and Costco sells an AGM H8 Interstate battery for $184.99. This blows away the price of an AGM anywhere else, or even a regular batter probably. So I bought it. The install was much easier than I expected. However, using Ross-Tech I was not able to program this battery to the car. I am assuming that the only thing lack of programming does, is possibly shorten the life of the battery? But at that price verses $500+ at a dealer, I figure I can afford to have a year knocked off the life of the battery. Thoughts? Am I missing something?

As I understand it, an AGM battery and an FLA battery take charges at different rates. The alternator that's installed in the car charges at a static rate. If the MFG decides to install an FLA battery then they'll use the appropriate alternator for an FLA battery. Same with AGM. Some modern cars (BMW I believe) can alter this rate of change via programming, but I don't think the Treg can. Therefore since my alternator was designed for an FLA battery (based on VIN verification) I went with an FLA battery. At $250 I didn't think that was too crazy.

Did your chosen battery come with a BEM sticker?
When you say the RT process didn't work, what error did you get?

Unfortunately, no BEM sticker. It's been a month or two, but I don't recall getting an error, I just couldn't figure out how to do it, as the battery was not listed as one I could choose from, and no sticker to make the job easy.

I guess that's to be expected when your replacement parts don't match the parts that you're replacing.....

VW has the Treg now. I dropped it off last night and they were supposed to have it done today but their diesel tech got stuck on another car. Hopefully I get it back tomorrow.

On another note - I'm looking to sell another car of mine to find something a little more stupid to daily. So I've been on Autotrader today. Long story short I searched for a 2016 diesel Treg for the hell of it. A dealer in MO has a few of these with under 100 miles!! WTH??? And their asking over $60k for some of them. Looking at pics they look pretty tired to be honest, but I guess they're just collecting dust sitting there. Can't be good for the drivetrain. But sheesh...

Before I bought mine I almost picked up a dark blue (moonlight blue maybe) Exec with the terracotta interior...dealer wanted over 60k for it so I bailed. But I loved that Blue/Terracotta...

Yep, this is been happening for several years now. They are new old stock, brand new probably never a first owner. That's a heck of a discounted price.. 10 years 100,000 miles never looked so nice

That said, in 2023 there are plenty of other options that are non-diesel that will bode far better
