I was driving yesterday with 3 passengers in the car and did some errands with them. After one stop, the engine already warm, we took off up a hill. I was giving it about 1/4 throttle so the engine was under load. It was about 72 degrees with high humidity outside. The engine started to misfire and surge. The check engine light was flashing for a about 30 seconds and then it went solid for about 15 seconds and then the light went off. It drove fine. And then a short time later it did it again. Same thing, under load. We stopped somewhere and finished our errands and the engine ran fine after that. It hasn't done it today at all. Last night it rained but it's much cooler today but with it being humid still.

To me it sounds like a coil pack. BUT... The car only had 58k miles.

I've owned the car about 1 week and bought it used from a GMC dealership. It has 30 days of warranty. I'm at the dealership now and they can't find any codes. Doesn't the Touareg store any codes? Can they not read it with an OBD controller?

Any tips on what to do next besides getting it in writing that I was here with this problem in case it happens again after my warranty expires?

Thanks!

Thanks STP! I figured that's what it was. They won't change the coils or the wires unless they can bring up a code? Were your techs able to replicate the problem?

What code reader do they have?

Given it is a GMC dealership I bet they are using a generic reader which will not have the full functionality of the VW workshop code reader available at a VW dealer

For those with an interest in maintaining their Touaregs then the aftermarket Ross Tech Vag Com is a must. It will do so much more than a generic code reader (do a search on here to see the uses it has) and is the closest you will get to a factory VW diagnostics machine.

Get the GMC guys to get a VW dealer to read the codes, there should be some there given the symptoms you described. Then they can do what STP has suggested!!!

Yup, thanks guys. I have a cable on the way, but it won't be here for a few days. The dealer will be taking it to a VW dealership tomorrow to be looked at. Easy enough. Can't wait for my cable to get here either way. More tinkering!
