I searched a few threads but couldnt find an answer to my issue, so I thought I'd start a new thread.

Last week, I installed a new Carquest A/C blower motor. Yesterday, when I turned the fan on, I began hearing this buzzing sound from the center of the dash, like its coming from the climate control unit. When I turn the fan off, the noise stops. I also noticed that when the car is moving and I turn left, the noice reduces significantly or goes away.

I just finished a 45-minute drive and the noise occurred right away and for the duration of the trip. When went out just now to try and record the sound however, it didn't happen.

Any ideas on this? Could a defective or interior quality blower be causing some kind of electrical feedback to the climate control unit? Or is it just a coincidence that this occurred at the same time the blower was replaced, and the climate control until is just old and failing?

It's possible that the new aftermarket unit is causing the problem.
Did the old unit work at all? Do you still have the old unit?

Thanks. I just threw away the old unit so unfortunately, I cant test. My thought is to return the current unit and get a replacement. I can certainly just get the same one I currently have, or I can try another brand.

Either the bearings are bad or the fan is rubbing something. The fact that the noise changes when you corner proves this, as the assembly shifts.

Interesting theory, but the sound isn’t coming from the fan (right side of the dash under the glovebox). It’s clearly coming from the center of the dash. UPDATE: this evening, I banged on the front of the climate control unit and the noise stopped. If I banged on it again (or drive over a significant bump), the buzzing noise would start up again. I’m thinking it’s the climate control unit.

What if you press on one corner at a time?

Aside from the suggestion above I would say remove the climate control unit (leave it hanging out but connectors intact) and turn the fan on and see if it's actually the control unit.

I'm wondering if there is a difference in resistance of the aftermarket blower you put in and it's affecting the climate control somehow. Might not be the case but it odd you only had it after installing that blower.

UPDATE

So, as I prepared to install a new fan, I thought "if I unplug the current fan and the noise from the climate control unit continues, then the issue is likely not the fan."

Well, I unplugged the fan and the noise continued.

"New" climate control unit on the way, and we'll see if that solves the problem.
