06 Touareg Brake Sensor Installation

1286 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  T-Reg247
Hello fellow Tregies.

I need to replace the front passenger brake pad sensor on my 06 Touareg. I'm trying to figure out if I need to pull the brake pad completely out or if it's as easy as unplug old, plug in new.

Anyone able to lend some guidance or direct me to a DIY Video?

Quite easy to replace without removing the pad. You may have to undo the pad retainer, depending on which calliper model you have. Should take no more than 10 mins to do.

Stuart...
The old sensor will be stuck in there. You can get it out by breaking it. In fact, you usually can't get it out without breaking it.

Once it is out, I have been able to slip a new one into the slot. This was new pads with new sensors. I was able to pull the sensor out and put it back while the pad was mounted.. which is what I think you are asking.

I have never tried it on used pads.
Great, thank you both. I recently had the brake pads and rotors replaced. They either didn't replace the sensor on one side, or it was a bad sensor. I'm hoping to just swap a new sensor out so I don't have to take the car back (the shop has terrible customer service.) Before I started taking things a part I wanted to know what I was getting into. Sounds like an easy swap.

Before you remove the sensor make sure the one in there is plugged in the whole way. That could be another reason it is being triggered. If you can verify it is plugged in the whole then then you may want to see if it is in fact a new sensor or defective one.
