Quite easy to replace without removing the pad. You may have to undo the pad retainer, depending on which calliper model you have. Should take no more than 10 mins to do.

Before you remove the sensor make sure the one in there is plugged in the whole way. That could be another reason it is being triggered. If you can verify it is plugged in the whole then then you may want to see if it is in fact a new sensor or defective one.Great, thank you both. I recently had the brake pads and rotors replaced. They either didn't replace the sensor on one side, or it was a bad sensor. I'm hoping to just swap a new sensor out so I don't have to take the car back (the shop has terrible customer service.) Before I started taking things a part I wanted to know what I was getting into. Sounds like an easy swap.
