Hello all, still looking for my first Treg. Looking at an '05 V8 original purchase date was 10/23/04. Should I be worried as I've read multiple posts on the 05 that it is preferable to get as late a manufacture date as possible. Sold again in 2010 as certified VW, timing belt has been done. Currently has 90,054 miles on it and is off road gray with teak interior which is exact color combo I'm looking for. Don't want to jump on it just because of that, don't want to miss out on it either. Thoughts? Other questions I should ask dealer? Asking price is under $13,000 has nav, air, equip pkg 3, 4, 5. Thanks for the help.

If you go through it well or have it inspected well, then I would not worry about it. At that age and miles, most of the stuff you are talking about has already surfaced and been dealt with or still is causing problems.

Best bet is to make sure ALL features work as intended. If anything malfunctions then it should be addressed before yo buy it.

There's a thread or discussion in here about what to look for when buying a used treg - you may want to read it. I would read it though with a bit of caution in that reading all of the quirks etc could scare the pants off a lot of people. Its true there are quirks and problems with every car. The difference to me is that ours are well documented for the most part.

Good Luck

What warranty is the dealer providing?

Trade in value for that car/mileage is probably 8000 - 8500.00. Presuming they put on new tires and reconditioned it....the price can climb...so what have they done to it?

battery- how old
brakes - how old

what is the service history? what warranty are you getting?

05 V8 is a great ride. Most of my 12000 miles were covered under a platinum warranty that covered air suspension and related compressor repairs, rear diff seal repairs, some other gotchas... Post warranty I replaced the front differential (ouch) but kessy-related repairs (door handles, inability to lock it, battery drainage) a year later led me to replace it with a newer one.

I'd haggle the price down to 11 - 11500 if you have new tires and no warranty. Then put what you save from haggling in the bank for future repairs.

I have an 05 V6 with manufacture date of September 2004. It's been fine for the most part except some maintenance and one or two minor glytches. Hasn't had the major issues known with the 2004 Model-Year.

You should be fine. Do check the service history, etc. Recalls done, etc. Overall, it's a great ride as the other member posted. V8 has more kick than the V6 and uses just a bit more gas, but worth the purchase even at that mileage. Is it air or steel suspension?

Thanks all of you. This is exactly the info I was looking for.
Baltimore, it has air.
Jimbuffalo, agreed on getting price down and using the savings for warranty or keeping for repairs. It's at a dealership out of state. Still waiting to hear back from dealer on history and work done. These are specific questions I can ask, thank you.
Green Egg, I have read Nooby's thread and it is helpful. Car is at a dealer out of state so I'm leary about pursuing it. I've bought my last two vehicles online, out of state and have done very well. But they weren't 9 yrs old and out of warranty.
Thanks to you all for helping this new guy out. Go Tigers!

Cool. Good luck with pursuing this. Hopefully all falls in order and you can accept ownership of the car.

It reads like you have done what you can to be as knowledgeable as possible before you buy.

The car is relatively low mileage and it sounds like it has a good service history.

If you can afford the fuel consumption and understand that repairs can be expensive, then buy it and enjoy it.
