If anyone can help me I will praise you for the rest of my life.

I bought this POS a few months back, had the typical water damage from the drains being plugged the airbag sensor under driver's side was defective from this. Did the brakes, battery, headlight level sensor the usual Touareg issues.

Anyway, I was heading for vacation camping several hours up north and all of a sudden driving on the highway BANG! the entire car jolted forward and it felt like we were going through the windshield. On further diagnosis I noticed the gear selector was highlighting right before it would slam. So I did the first obliviously thing: rebuilt the valve body with sonex valves. Transmission place that put fluid back in for me said it's fine. After driving for a couple hours BANG! Again same issue slamming while driving out of no where only this time the green brake sensor for pulling it out of park came on. So I took it back to the S**T hole that put me in this position in the first place and they said it was the shifter, so they removed mine I brought them one from a wrecker and to keep the story short I ended up getting pissed off and taking the car back and started driving it by selecting the gear without the shifter, moving the cable to select gears. It seemed to be ok after 2+ hour burn but let's be serious we wouldn't be here if it was. Sure enough BANG! AGAIN! It f**king did it again. I don't even know where to start.

It does this while changing gears sometimes, and sometimes not, even with no throttle it will shutter but not slam entirely.

It seems to be after extended drives only or when it hasn't rested for some time.

Valve body has been changed.

The shifter is been removed.

Shifts like butter now tho.

The truck is in shambles.

This truck takes joy in kicking a man while he's down so hopefully you guys can help lift my spirits because I'm $6k in to this thing and ready to give up with no hope in site.

Please I have scoured these forms and the only possibility left I can think of is updates due to TCM bugs?

Oh and to top it off now the headlights flicker randomly.

Also the girlfriend is ready to leave me over hearing about it.

Would this cause the car to feel like it's going into park while driving? It seems plausible to me. The only related codes I got from the VAG were CAM position sensor and triptronic. I will scan tomorrow and update.

If you intend on keeping the treg you better spend the money on a vcds cable instead of diagnosis sessions at shops. And generic scanner won’t help much. Trust me. Consider the vcds scanner a critical part gone bad and you need to replace it.

I have a VCDS scanner codes are:

Ok now that’s good stuff there.
Let’s start with the speed sensor.
And fix the brake boost issue.
The other error won’t be causing you that bang you’re experiencing. A friend is has been driving with that error for more than a year now.
Get a new speed sensor and ask your mechanic to replace it. Let me know if he does not find it. It is near the oil cooler.
For the brake booster issue you need to check the hose coming from the brake booster to the vaccum pump behind the passenger side headlight. I will post a link to a thread showing you what that is.

I can handle the speed sensor/vaccum line tomorrow. I swapped the valve body (transmission place rebuilt it and diagnosed it) and I knew better than to replace fluid myself. I didnyt trust myself to diagnose (more like my gf didn't). I will do the speed sensor and vacuum line tomorrow, scan and update you, honestly I have three days off. Thanks for your help.

I guess Nooby doesn't run these forms anymore lol you do. If I don't get to the tensioner tomorrow don't kill me but let's see if I can tape the vaccum lines temporarily, and swap the speed sensor. I'll take it for a good run and scan.

In regards to the chain I have no noise but the a*hole that owned the car put improper oil in for a few oil changes so it's likely going to need a little more than the tensioner, the service records are basically how not to maintain a Treg.

The speed sensor sounds bang on. It shifts funny going up small inclines, then will completely shutter slash stall for a split second causing it to thud. Not to mention it would take a few turns of the key to start. My dumbass should have taken the codes more seriously instead of dumping $2k into a valve body.

I guess time will tell, the good thing is these things are finally starting to show up in the wreckers around here I've got 3 with decent parts left recently so if I have to get into a tranny I will. But from what I can tell no hesitation, I gave it the ringer today for a few hours and man the smile came right back shifted better then it ever has even in limp. Like you said fluid fluid fluid. I'm going to be dumping the fluid out and buying ravenol in as soon as I know the thing won't let me down and the worst is behind me. The ****ing thing shuttered so hard I have a very minor exhaust leak, not to mention bulkhead drains are blocked as my floors are still wet after I thought I cleaned them out, headlight has a mind of it's own, and passenger control arm is shot but drivable for now (dumbass put lowpro Porsche wheels on so I don't care about tires and will be changing them in the spring). I didn't want a project car but I have one. I drove it from St. Catharines to Guelph about 120km today didn't slam till I just got in the neighborhood. But yeah she's parked until we go for another round after the sensor swap. Thanks again I will keep you posted! If you ever need parts our wreckers are cheap here and I could ship it over to you for helping me out!

That was quick
There are at least four causes for wet floor mats that I know of. The craziest one being a seal between the firewall and the ac drain on the passenger side (lhd). I had to drive with carpet torn open and a paper napkin near the seal to find out where water was coming from. I will upload pictures later.

It's still slamming randomly but both the codes are gone. Vaccum leak seems to be fixed. Honestly I was reading the arly threads and recall hearing something about there being issues with TCU software. I think I'm going to send it to the dealer and call around to find a master mechanic that knows the generation. It only does it when it's hot and it's so forceful it has torn the flexpipes now.

FYI update on this was wiring under passenger seat causing intermittent connection with TCM it was a red yellow wire by the door under carpet and blue and black under the seat, repaired issue resolved. ALSO both B-pillars required wiring repair near the floor. VCDS did not throw any codes but when monitoring the blocks in the TCM it would randomly cut out while driving, and would get error light up in MFD. issue has been resolved for months no issues, Now its on the the chain issues.
