I'm thinking of buying a 2.5 tdi with manual transmission, not many manuals about so I'm a bit limited with choice. I've seen one which I like which I like but there is quite a lot of oil around the oil filler cap at the top of the engine, looks like it's been leaking around there for a while as it's leaked down the back of the engine. It have heard that the filler cap itself can be at fault, leaking fumes, the car has done 100k miles. Any advice from someone who has experienced this would be appreciated.

It looks like someone has just replaced the filler cap, it looks brand new, however there is previous evidence of the leak, I don't know if it's still leaking?

High crank case pressure from a worn engine at only 100k miles, is that really likely? I've run a few cars to well over 200k without such a problem.
