so upon start up yesterday my touareg immediately was running very rough with massive miss fire so I ran the codes... with a cheap auto zone scanner

it says bank one camshaft sensor problem and cylinders 1,2,3,4 are misfiring

any thoughts on this?

can the camshaft sensor cause this? if so is it likely to have caused damage to the engine?
I will be doing a compression test tomorrow am I hope its not a cam or timing issue.. the timing belt only has 40k miles on it and was installed by the dealer...

after doing more research it seems i may have stumbled across the culprit which would likely mean my engine is toast...

the cam chain on the back of the engine has never been replaced and there are 155k on the vehicle. it seams likely to have jumped teeth on the camshaft...

my question is will a compression test confirm or deny this? if it passes does that mean all is still in time and may just need a new camshaft position sensor? and if it doesn't pass its likely to have a bad head or even pistons and rods???
