Hi All,
I've been reading past posts on this topic & from what I can see I need to be using 506.01 Spec "VW LONGLIFE II" (not 507.01 Spec LONGLIFE III).
What do you guys use & recommend & where should I get it?
TIA & Cheers,
Rob

Your 04 V10 factory spec oil is 506.01
Your R50 uses factory spec 507.00

Notice I said factory spec oil but that is not what I use especially in an T1 V10 and now I believe the 5W 30 is no good for the T2 either.

506.01 oil is somewhat rare from aftermarket suppliers unless you look around at the O/S market to the likes of liquiMoly, Fuchs, etc.

But for those who look around you can get ENVIRO+ C2 0W-30 (Full Synthetic) which is 506.01

if your R50 is DPF you can use 507.00

If it isn't you can use 506.01 or 505.01

505.01 is good enough. My dad's v10 is on 350'000km and running like clockwork. Injector deviations and cam lobes look great.

We change oil every 10'000km.

We change oil every 10'000km. That's the go, makes a massive difference to the life of any motor.
I've been getting some good advice & taking the climate into consideration also. (It gets hot here in Summer.)
Thanks all.

Said it before... I'll say it again... I wouldn't ever use a 0w30 oil in a PD TDI. If you want to stay with VW oil specs find a 5w40 505.01.

Let me rephrase. If you have a DPF model you MUST use 507.00.

If not you MUST use 506.01 or 505.01, NOT 507.00

You're not the only the only expert I've spoken to that shares that opinion.Compu, what oil do you use actually and why?
Regards, Rob
P.S. Is it because of the higher operating temperatures that you're operating in compared to Europe?

I personally use Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5w40 in our V10. It also goes into the 99.5 ALH TDI Jetta, and the 91 603.970 Turbo Diesel Mercedes.

Something about M1 TDT does cause a slight increase in oil consumption, but it's not bad. On the V10 I have to top up once around 6,500 miles.
