I have a 04 TREG v8 with 75k miles. Driving today engine stalled at a stop light, no unusual lights. Engine would crank but it never would start. I had both fuel pumps replaced 500+ miles ago because it would start then stop after 30 seconds. Any clues.. I do not trust the dealer techs.
:(

First port of call, as with any fault on the Touareg really, is to put it on VAGcom and read the faults.

The dealer said the fault showed low fuel pressure so either the new parts failed or hose etc has come off in the tank... sigh more $$$$$$. While I love driving and the features of this beast the failure rate is incredible. I have probably had every known failure and wierd syptom known to these forums. Door handle was the worst, 5 batteries, air shock, compressor system, igniton coils and all of the recalls and MORE... extended warranty (while it lasted ) was a great investment. This TREG is toast!!

I am left wondering why you didn't put the dealer diagnosis in your first post.

Giving full information when asking others for assistance does help!

Iam surethat you are well intended so I won't take it personally.

Here are the facts:

1. Not everyone has a VAGcom at their disposal and people can actually diagnose or guess how a TREG works without one... sometimes. This has worked with two major problems I had by reading the forums.

2. After searching posts for several hours and waiting I posted the question while waiting for the dealer to diagnose and call, hence the later news. I was suspicious of the previous work on the fuel pumps and the new Symtom did not seem to match.

So now the symtom it is not a mystery. hopefully it was a fault in the fuel pump replacement process that caused this failure so that I can perhaps trust the vehicle to not leave me stranded in the middle of a busy road if fixed. I was concerned that it might a crank sensor or other NEW fault which would have me even more worried about overall reliability. Overall with all of the problems I have had none have left me without the ability to get out of harms way (except for the shock failure in my driveway ) When a TREG engine dies suddenly , as with most modern cars, it can be dangerous.

Sorry for the bother. Keep in mind that this TREG is an early special ordered model that has every option except parking sensors on it. So this is the risk 7+years later.

I thinks you supposed to have 1 year parts and labor warranty for the newly installed fuel pump and also whatever they touched to complete the previous job while changing filters.

Thanks for the suggestions. The problem was two fuel lines that did pop off the left pump. The replacement of the fuel pumps was done by a highly reputable shop but not a dealer as I was 150 miles away from a dealer. It is not clear if the lines were not properly secured or if the clips that hold the hoses on are just weakened from the removal and replacement. I could not take the treg back to the shop that did the work as I was 200 miles from them and 1/4 mile from a dealer. SO, I was out of luck. The shop that did the original worked did give me the labor cost back in refund. That seemed fair.

Ultimately I resolved all my issues by trading it in on something new and reliable (not a VW )

Thanks for the replies, this forum is really a great help for the TREG owners.
