Need help.
1. My Convenince System is inaccessible from the Nav screen.
2. Function buttons/wheel on Steering column are inop.
3. Clock settings options is listed in NAV screen, but not selectable in system settings menu.
4. Clock button on instrument cluster is inop.
5. None of my A/C adapter ports work. They are illuminated by console lighting but do not produce any voltage.

This is all while in park and with the engine running.

I have absolutely no other issues. The engine runs like it is brand new no codes, nada.

Is there any possibility that there is a central cause for all of the above? I can not believe that multiple fuses have gone bad at the same time.

Thanks!

I'd start with looking for a blown fuse(s) - even if its unlikely. Its quick, cheap and easy and something you should rule out before going any further. If you find one and it fixes the problem (i.e. doesn't blow again relatively quickly) then you are done. Could be power supply to a module all goes thru one fuse.

If that doesn't work or fuse keeps blowing then you are either looking for the cause of a blown fuse or get codes read and determine if there is a possible issue with an electrical module.

Final thought I have is to rule out the battery before you do too much else. Could it be that some of this stuff has been shut off by load intervention management? Codes would tell you that as well.

There's a link on here for an electrical self study guide for the Touareg which you may find useful.

Before you do anything run a vag diag. It's the easiest and least time consuming. I do however have questions re the following that you stated:

1. My Convenince System is inaccessible from the Nav screen. What convenience system are you referring to that you cant access from the NAV screen?
2. Function buttons/wheel on Steering column are inop. Do your cruise control buttons work?
3. Clock settings options is listed in NAV screen, but not selectable in system settings menu. This is normal.
4. Clock button on instrument cluster is inop. All this button should do is take you to time change setting on your cluster.
5. None of my A/C adapter ports work. They are illuminated by console lighting but do not produce any voltage. There are no AC adaptor ports, only 12V DC. This one will for sure be a fuse issue.

Sorry "Comfort settings"?? (still not sure this is what it's called, but a small set of options you can change (like what doors unlock when you use FOB, etc)

2. Function buttons/wheel on Steering column are inop. Do your cruise control buttons work?
Not sure, will test, but radio controls do work for sure on steering column.

3. Clock settings options is listed in NAV screen, but not selectable in system settings menu. This is normal.
Ok, seems odd but if you are not supposed to be able to select this option so be it.

4. Clock button on instrument cluster is inop. All this button should do is take you to time change setting on your cluster.
I had read that pressing this button would like you said allow you to adjust the clock in the cluster, but some have indicated it also brings up the clock settings in the MFI(?)

I will check ALL fuses and Cruise Control tonight. Thank you

SterlingTreg,
1. You cannot change your comfort setting from the NAV. You have to use the function buttons on your steering wheel.
2. What happens when you press the function buttons on your steering wheel when looking at the MFI?
3. Yeah, NAV clock gets its time from the cluster.
4. Yes, pressing the clock button should bring up the option to to set the time in the MFI. Does yours not do anything in the MFI?
5. OK

UPDATE!!! - Me = Dummy

Sorry all, I had "many" personal issues over this past weekend that kept me from working on the Treg. My vag com cable should be here today and I will be able to do a lot more, however here is what I have done.

I jumped the shark on the first rule of troubleshooting and completely assumed my iPhone car charger was operational. After checking all fuses that could possibly be associated with the d/c power recepticles and not finding bad fuses, I finally found and tried a different car charger for my wife's GPS and BING it works. Sorry for that.

So the power recepticles (ALL) are fine, and now I am trying to track down the fuse associated with the steering wheel controls for the MFI.

Cruise Control and Radio controls on the steering wheel work fine, it is only the three controls (two selector control buttons and the wheel) that are doing absolutely nothing along with the cluster clock button. These two must be related.

All fuses checked good. I hooked up my vag com and played around a bit. I got rid of the FLAT TYRE warning by disconnecting the TPMS module and re-keying the address code per the instructions provided in another thread.

Cycling the ignition (as part of the re-learning process for the computer to scan connected modules) seems to have fixed the the remaining controls on the steering wheel. They all work. Pushing the clock button on the cluster now brings up the settings I was looking for and the function buttons on the steering wheel now work and allowed me to set the comfort settings like which doors auto un-lock etc.

So one thing I found was that there are fuses all over the place. Second thing I found was that the Treg computer seems to be way too complex to the point where it distorts your ability to properly troubleshoot car electronics and that sometimes "rebooting" or "re-scanning" fixes things that should not be malfunctioning in the first place.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. It was much appreciated. I will be looking for things I can tweak now that I have access tot he computer from here on out. Next on my list is the NAV warning/accept screen.

This issue is resolved.

Glad you got it working right.

How did you do the re-boot/re-scan? I have had vag-com on mine a number of times but have never done that. It might help me with my horns not working even though I replaced them both issue.

Sorry Green

What I meant by "rebooting/rescanning" (I'm a computer guy) is that when you cycle the ignition key on/off (twice I believe) then start the car normally the onboard computer basically re-learns what modules are in place and in doing so it is like a "refresh".

Things I have done....

Eliminated the TPMS sensor module and warning
(needed to disconnect battery ground to get rid of cluster TPMS light)

Eliminated the NAV Accept screen by changing from US/Canada to Europe.

Eliminated the Seatbelt warning chime

Added Day time driving light toggle to MFI "Comfort Control Module" and can now turn those on or off at will.

Cleared all codes and re-scanned to verify no fault codes present.

All of these processes are documented in this forum and they all work exactly as outlined.

I have to remember to clear codes when doing modifications. To anyone that has not gotten this far, ignition on/off/on/off can potentiall solve problems with modules not working if a bad fuse is not the culprit. Also if you need to disconnect the battery temporarily (not remove/replace) no need to tear the driver seat apart, you can actually get to the ground terminal as it is in the very front of the seat behind the carpet panel. You should be able to get a socket wrench in there and loosten the nut to disconnect then reconnect if need be.
